How much time do you dedicate each day to self-improvement and what are your goals?

I spent two hours programming, two hours doing my Japanese reps, and two hours in tulpa meditation. These are my life goals.

I've always thought it'd be neat to know programming of some kind. Over the years I've started out trying to learn Java and C and Python at different occasions and would just quit after a week.

I think my biggest hurdle is that I just don't know how computers work. I can use one just fine, but I wouldn't be able to tell you what most of my PC's specs even meant. And when something goes wrong, I have no clue where to start looking to fix it.

If someone could point in the right direction, I'd love to learn how a computer works, and maybe even build one someday. Then I could move on to programming, I think. This would be worth devoting time to. I even have an old broken computer tower I could take apart if it would help the process.

Keep in mind that I actually am technologically retarded. For example, I know I have a graphics card, and I could find out what kind. But I don't know what in the world it actually *does*.

It's kind of difficult, but you have to actually read up on the history of computers and electronics in general to truly appreciate what computers are and what they can do.

Historically, from the first ever vacuum tube, to diode, to transistor, to integrated circuits, to microprocessors. I may have skipped something but that's the gist of it.

Nowadays people take this sort of stuff for granted but who, and I mean who, actually does know how these things work, inside out?

Babbage machine comes first.

Is not complex, as well as in programming the history of computers comes from encapsulation, creating simple small things and building with then.

For computers is this order more or less: Physics>Electricity>logic gates>Simple computers/finite state machines(heavy encapsulated logic gates)> Complex computers emulating simple computers thus becoming the multitask tools we have today.

This is a very clumsy overview, you should as well check the history of memory and processors.

It's hard to understand computers as whole, it's easier to think as them as emulators of simple computers, if you can get to the infinite state machine/simple computer the complex one becomes intuitive.
