Only difference is it's slightly less Wapanese and populated by fewer retards and teenagers.

4chan City sometimes makes me shed a tear, though.

Yeah man 4chan was better when it was for people to act like idiots, share porn and discuss anime. Now it's completely ruined. Nobody anywhere on this site acts like idiots, shares porn, or discusses anime any more.

That feel when you still see /jp/ as a "new board". If you don't, consider that it was:
* Created at the same time as /r9k/
* Added around the same time as the new themes
* Made a couple months after the new front page

>> No.9079679

>>9079627
Yeah, I still see them as incredibly new and keep thinking that /vp/ was made just a few months ago. And it feels like 2006 was yesterday to me. Time is a strange thing.

Everything is ruined the minute it becomes mainstream in America.

Videogames and the internet are a prime example, Anime is next.

VNs/eroge are exempt from this.

I'll answer this for him because I WAS THERE™.

Futaba Channel didn't have image replies until they trial ran them on the "Original Art" board in early 2004. thatdog or someone hacked them into Futallaby a little earlier. So for a few months of 4chan's existence, it didn't have image replies. Go check archive.org or something.

And yes, 4chan technically had image replies before Futaba Channel did.

Even without it its just the formspring circlejerk, which is nothing near representative of /jp/, just some spit of time during its existence.

>> No.9086199

/jp/ hasn't always been "Otaku Culture". It used to be named something else. When I first discovered it, I trolled /jp/ by making up a story about how I was dating this Japanese girl, but I didn't know anything about Japanese culture and I needed some help from /jp/ to get me up to speed. Now I have the feeling that meido would delete a thread like that on the spot. /jp/ is still good, though just in a different way.

>> No.9086241

>>9086199
Eh, we got touhou and bullet hell. But that's about it.
Anything related to Japan is deleted on sight, yet memes and obvious troll threads are permitted to stay.

Sometimes I wish I could just move to /po/ for good.

Weren't the porn boards up quite early (very late 2003), which presumably had image replies? The board that I saw 4chan's porn boards linked on had image replies enabled in what was most likely 2003 (moe.homelinux.net).

I guess it could have been early 2004, without digging out CDs that barely work I can't find anything with the second-based filename system earlier than 2004, if I even have any.
