I hadn't played a video game in about 3 years which got me feelin' kinda bad since I used to be pretty hardcore into them. Decided to give Diablo 3 a shot since I enjoyed the first 2.

First thing you'll notice is the WoW/SC2 style neo-battle.net interface. You can't create games with names to tell people about your game, because that makes too much sense. Also forget chat channels and more importantly LAN and offline single player. As horrible as this is, it's even worse with D3 because of its' unstable servers and security flaws, people are unable to play, lagging, and getting hacked in single player. Among the many issues of thinking with your wallet. That and the real money auction house is the move of a real scummy company. Pay-to-win is always unnacceptable.

Next thing you find is the art style. Remember that dark and gothic atmosphere of Diablo 1? It's gone, completely. It diminished in Diablo 2 but in this game they didn't even try it seems. The vulnerability of a lone warrior walking and using barrels and doorways to his advantage in killing a few enemies is also gone. This game is all about running into the middle of a thousand enemies and AoE-ing them down. Because nothing says gothic horror like cartoon spells killing a thousand guys in the middle of a desert in daylight.

And the next thing you will notice is how linear it is. Go to where it tells you on the map. Do exactly what it says and walk to the next place it tells you to go on the map. Do this for a few hours and you’ve beaten the game on normal. Oh yeah, did I mention how short the game is. A normal play through for a solo player is about 6 hours with speed runners doing it in 2 hours at launch. This linearity is made even worse by the fact that playing on higher difficulties is the same shit. Remember how in Diablo 1 were every time you made a new game you got different quests and you weren't obligated to do any except the last?

The music is hollow and generic compared to the original’s and the WoW-style grinding gets annoying. And that’s all you can do after you get to lvl 60 (which takes 2-3 days tops). Did I mention how similar this game is to WoW yet? Can’t keep Diablo and WoW separate after how well WoW sold. Forget about having to collect scrolls of town portal nd paying for identification. Games should be easier now according to pander to the more casual player. Just press T for town portal and right click your unidentified items and you're done. What's the point of even having them unidentified in the first place if all you have to do is right click them?

World PvP is gone because Blizzard is full of morons. Oh but don't worry, they plan to add WoW-style arenas in the future because those are so much fun. They took out distributable attribute points because customization is too good of a feature for this shitty game and the writing is atrocious with stupid trope memes and retarded dues exs everywhere. The fact that the story is so awful wouldn't be as bad if they didn't insist and forcing it down your throat constantly. Remember the subtlety of Diablo 1's story telling. They told you almost nothing and you slowly learned more through the town’s people and books you found in dungeons that slowly built up the game’s story. Voice acting is also awful and overused. Why is Diablo constantly talking to me and why does he sound like such a tool. He's supposed to be the lord of terror. "NEPHALEM YOU WILL NEVER STOP ME. I WILL CONTINUE TO YELL AT YOU THROUGH SOME SORT OF MAGIC MENTAL TELEPATHY EVERY TIME YOU GET CLOSER TO STOPPING ME, TO TELL YOU THAT YOU CAN'T". Actually all the bosses won't shut the fuck up. Maghda even tells you were to go. For some reason they decided to make Diablo is a girl with tits and ass. Very scary. This game fucking blows. All of this after 11 years of development. Really disapointed in Blizzard. Going to try and get my money back.

The best approach to Diablo 3 is not buying it.

Most of the things that are deeply and horribly wrong with this game were apparent from the information given prior to release, and the beta.

If you bought it, you're part of the problem that's enabling Blizzard to create these Angry Birds spiritual sequels and call them the best selling video games of all time. Half of you probably did that annual pass thing to get it, too. Sickening.

If it wasn't horribly unbalanced, <insert class here> didn't have 5 malfunctioning spells, the servers weren't located in antarctica, and the interface/controls weren't dated garbage, I might be able to look past how bad the core gameplay is.

I know I should have said it a long time ago, but this is definitely the last time I let blizzard disappoint me. PSO2 next month!

Part of me wants to get this game because I know a few people who are going to play too and I'm pretty sure I'll get (at least) my money's worth in terms of satisfaction and gameplay time.

At most, they should've included some sort of auto-leveller for casualfags like you : if you're gay and can't even commit a few hours to find out about stats/skills before deciding completely you can always pick one of the "pre-made" builds and basically let the game autopilot your stats and skills for you as you gain levels.

Game was boring as shit until hell. Then by hell act 3 it started feeling like diablo 2 again - spawning multiple times to kill one elite group, running away from shit you can't beat, etc.

My main problem is the fucking shitty item drop rate. Its impossible to get past fucking nightmare without the ah, at least as a barb. If they had allowed offline single player with better drops it would be goty. Or if they just fucking fixed crafting.

What I've noticed is that there are useful combos of skills. You lay out a strategy and then use a core set of skills to help you boost that fighting strategy.
For example- the engineer. One strategy is to go weapon + shield full defensive tank powerhouse, while another is to go full offensive two handed massive hammer, with appropriate skills. If you have a fast attacking weapon some skills will be better than others

Definitely was better than the D3 beta IMO. It was still casual mode (it's impossible to screw up a character build in Torchlight II) but it was still far more fun since you could specialize in weapon type, stats, and skills for all the different classes (you know, like in a RPG).

That's where half of the fun comes from these types of games IMO. It can't just all be loot, gear and auction houses like in D3.

anyways as for the rest of this, it's a multiplayer hack-and-slash, I bought it just because I heard I could try out wow again since BC and got it w/ that whole giant bundle deal w/ my savings since it got me 2 xpacs that way and then I made guild in wow and started at BoT in 4.2 and then progressed our way through all content 10-man in a few months since then, spine is still a bitch, but honestly playing through all of cata's pve, it surprises me that people think wow is bad now, along w/ that the pve is pretty damn fun and world pve isn't as dead as most think, it's just a war around resource nodes in deepholm and warriors will be guaranteed to win, honestly, so I don't care too much that I wasted money on d3

but it's replayayability is nerfed down by the new skill system, once can't play a class in one build then roll again as a different spec of same class, but it did fix dumb stuff like 1 point or 30 points in a spell, nothing else is useful, honestly I think they could have kept that, they just tried to simplify it to the point where they removed alot of the replayability, honestly I'll still probably get 100+ hours of fun from this buy which is more than most games I buy for the price or anime bd's, so I guess I'm ok w/ it

and definitely a better spending of my money than buying more figs, which reminds me, anyone know any good hinagiku figs?

In fact, there's a chance the game could actually improve if you did play it. As players play the game and make big glaring notes about its faults, developers can fix it so it isn't as shitty as it was before. There's several very fixable issues with diablo 3 and I've already listed them in previous posts.

It's like how I completely love Silent Hill, but the modern games are just a sad and hallow shell of their past selves. They're not even made by the same people anymore. I don't really get games with gear/levels. The time and work taken in improving on your own player skill day by day. And then finally earning that league promotion is so much more rewarding than playing for stats and gear.
