You've got it backwards. She's wearing that kind of swimsuit because she obviously knows that otaku don't go there, even more during summer (fun fact that there's actually a thread going with summer and women).
Also she's small in stature and have a child body, so faking being a nerd while wearing that school-swimsuit allows her to avoid being questionned or laughed at her inexistant breasts.

Beside sorry to break it to you but basically Konata is nothing like an otaku. She's got friends, looks, and she's just your -average girl interested in otaku stuff and games-.

Some signs of social aptitude do not preclude one from being a otaku.

I my self am very introverted and bad in social situations (nothing new here), but I have a small group three friends with whom I am very close.
As difficult as it is for me I make a conscientious effort to be some what open to socialization because I know how lonely I will get otherwise, this donset make me any less of a otaku.

On an unrelated note what is a Konata's sexuality?She talks about boyfriends but plays Galge and Eroge and also makes some pretty lezbo remarks about Kagami and Miyuki.(Maybe Tsukasa too but I have never noticed)
