Because cats and dogs by their nature are cute and can be domesticated. Cows are good for:
* Milk
* Beef
Pigs are good for:
* Pork

Very few cultures have practiced breeding cats and dogs because they don't taste very nice. Go to one of those world markets and try some. They taste like shit. Pigs are delicious.

eating cats/dogs isnt cost effective, and defeats the purpose why they were bred

also, you can get more illnesses from eating cats/dogs then pigs/cows/chikens, look it up

and aside from pigs (who are pests in the wild that destroy crops) livestock is pretty stupid, so I dont feel bad about killing and eating them, while I always feel bad knowing octopuses are eaten on a daily basis in japan (they are more intelligent then cats, and many believe them to be on par or smarter then dolphins)
