I have a friend who's in Japan for a couple of months. I was hoping she could tell me about the sports there when she gets back, but she honestly doesn't care about sports.

Being a wrestling fan, I know about puroresu. I also know baseball has some kind of following (though I don't know if it's large or small). I assume soccer is at least somewhat popular in Japan, since it's played basically around the world.

What other sports? Any good ones that are unique to (or at least uniquely popular in) Japan?

Also, what do they tend to do well at in the Olympics? And for those of you who'll be watching the Olympics later, are you going to be cheering for your home country or Japan?

I learned that sometimes baseball delays anime thanks to Lucky Star.

Sumo wrestling
they have M1 instead of UFC

Baseball is the biggest sport over there believe it or not

there's Kendo instead of french styled fencing and archery

as for the olympics
Japan
Medals Won
Summer Winter
Gold: 123 Gold: 9
Silver: 111 Silver: 10
Bronze: 126 Bronze: 13

eh, seems moderate of course i'm not comparing that to USA or UK but i'm sure compared to other countries like spain that's pretty high

Is that also why the summer anime lineup always sucks ass?

/jp/ was never Japan/General except in name only.

OP here. I thought "Otaku Culture" had to do with interest in Japan in general. How is it different?

>> No.9011945

>>9011918
The difference is you can be interested in Japan in general without being a sweaty disgusting basement-dwelling neckbeard who collects and masturbates to anime figurines.

couldn't you find out everything you asked by simply searching for a second?

I don't know why you would come here, at least you've been polite, though.

I'm used to /co/. Thought this would lead to an interesting discussion about sports in Japan.

Well, you were wrong weren't you?

Sometimes it happens. We have threads about everything from cheeses to our favorite fonts. It's very organic though. I doubt many people here follow sports, so you might be better off in /sp/ or /int/.

>> No.9011989

>>9011979
Apparently so. Not sure why you had to ask me, though. Are you so unsure of yourself that you can't consider them wrong without asking them to confirm?
>>9011986
>better off in /sp/
I doubt that very much.
>or /int/
Probably, yeah.
