Madotsuki was bullied
1. Bird people are classmates and bullies. Once she's caught, she can't make any moves.
2. In one event, the bird people are seemingly having a fun picnic and Madotsuki can't join. She's being excluded from their fun.
3. Poniko turns into Uboa. This represents a friend who is usually nice to her but suddenly said something mean to her.

the toriningen were the girls at school that would attack her for her relationship

the things that most people see as signs of rape, I think, are more along the lines of a confused sexuality
if what she's doing is right or wrong
if she really loves him or if this is just soft molestation
I think Mado slowly went crazy, causing her to drop out of school, cut off all friendships, and after attempting to murder masada-sensei (shown by the fact he runs from the knife when she holds it), she shuts herself into her house and is driven deeper into the depths of madness by her own nightmares

She moves to a different school and ignores the drama and makes a new life

I've never been able to get into this game. Every few months I think "I'm in the mood for Yume Nikki!" and download it. I play for an hour or so and just get bored and delete it. Same with games like LSD Dream Emulator too. Someone recommended I play in the dark, in silence, while I was tired, etc. Didn't enhance the game.

And, at this point, I already have all the neat events and stuff spoiled for me, so there's no point anyway.

Some people apparently analyze and interpret the game and put together theories about what it all means, but I do that enough when I read. I'm not saying it's a bad game at all. I'm just saying I can't enjoy it. And that makes me sad.

What coincidence, I just finished Yume Nikki after finally deciding to play it.

What can I say... not my favorite game ever but it's certainly an experience I'd recommend a friend to make. My major complain is that it's almost impossible to find all secrets without resorting to online guides unless one spends weeks trying every kind of shit in the hopes to get a special event.

For crying out loud, I ended up giving up trying to make Uboa appear after 128 times (I counted them...), if it was a 50% chance I would have triggered it even before reading guides to see what I missed. It could have been a mindblowing surprise, but no...

Also the author could have put a little more effort for the ending.

I think you guys got it wrong. She isn't exactly a hikki: she is a girl who fell in love with a "fictional" character. One day, she found out that this fictional character actually existed in an alternative reality, and just downloaded a game about her. The only way she could interact with him was through this game, but the guy/girl seemed to be only interested in her dreams. Therefore she couldn't get out of her room, or he/she may have lost interest. She went through a lot of weird dreams for him/her, and was even drove to suicide by him/her. But she was happy, because even if she died, maybe she could show him/her that she was there, and make a place for herself in his/her mind and heart. I'm sorry for killing you, Mado. ;_;
