Dear /jp/
I want to learn Japanese
I know a little back from school (most of which I have forgotten) and a little from watching animus.
What is the best way to learn from here?
How long will it take to be able to have a proper conversation with a Japanese person?
Pic related, is this a good guide?

sorry for shitposting

You're learning a language. What do you want? Some magical video game or cartoon that unconsciously teaches you anime using neuro-linguistic programming in under ten minutes?

Go fuck yourself. Rosetta Stone is easymodo, and if you can't be bothered to learn with pictures/sounds/everything, you don't deserve to speak glorious nipponese.

If you're learning kanji, I suggest you try JRPG.
http://taw.chaosforge.org/jrpg/
It starts out with kana, then moves on to kanji.
It's a nice way to kill time and study.

That's what I mean.
It 'teaches' you about 3 words per hour.
And I'm not even sure what they mean at the end of it, I just have to guess based on the pictures (sometimes they are quite ambiguous)

I once read on /jp/ that it's shit for Japanese because it's made for easy Euro languages, so now I'm going to pass it off as my own opinion.

OP, It's not any good for Japanese, it's made for easymodo Euroshit languages.

Rosetta Stone is also a notorious failure.
The languages it teaches you are meant to be used in business practice, not everyday life.

Rosetta stone's only good for learning pronunciation and basic grammar, don't rely on it for much more unless you want to burn yourself (speaking as someone who's completed the entire thing).

Also, be wary of the 'kanji' teaching products. The concept of 'learning a kanji' is almost useless to a beginner and intermediate, because 'kanji' do not equate to words in the same way that English words do. Look for something that teaches you all 3 aspects SIMULTANEOUSLY: 1) meaning 2) pronunciation, and 3) sound.
Unfortunately I don't have many good resources for that, I've personally been using Slime Forest Adventure (lrnj.com) for learning words, but it is a long road indeed.

Derr, 3) is kanji, not sound. Got a little ahead of myself I guess...

For basic grammar and Kana there are shit loads of resources, just pick one. Kanjidamage is pretty okay way to learn Kanji

/lang/ would have more useful resources.

But what's the point? Japanese people are extremely distrustful and bitter towards foreigners.
In larger cities they're plain fake.

VNs, nigga.

If I could just read untranslated VNs I would consider it a very good use of time spent learning Jap.

Most people here are only interested in what Japan produces, not the country itself or its xenophobic inhabitants.

Please fuck off back to your home board and take your implying bullshit with you.

So one can read VNs? That's mostly why I'm at it. That and to have another trinket for a resume.

As a side note, >>9002424
it will take some time to be any level of proficient. Think about it this way: You've been practicing English for ~20 years now (assuming native speaker at college age). Although you have the aid of intelligence for learning a new language, it will still take a significant amount of time to be as fluent with a foreign language as you are with your native one. Also, don't forget the lack of immersion; there is quite a difference between passively listening to something and having to actively formulate replies to statements and questions (which I suggest you try and do as a study aid).
So, learning any foreign language isn't simply something one can pick up on a whim and finish in a year or so (unless they're naturally gifted with languages); but if you're willing to put in years of work you can do it.

Wrong. Most people here want a Japanese waifu for the sole purpose of making sure their offspring doesn't come out a ginger.
