Unlike others, plant have no real need or motivation.. They have no desire to be used like object.. Not an embodiment of fear and imagination like most youkai.. Worst of all they are numerous.. That's make them more dangerous.. To proof this statement, take a look at Saigyou Ayakashi.. Yuyuko's father died under the tree.. Later people choose the tree as suicide spot.. The tree gain power through death and become youkai.. And taking more & more soul until it was sealed by all gensokyo's power at the cost of Yuyuko..

Yuuka however become materialized without any reason or motivation.. Why she become youkai.? What is she want.? A grudge.? A curse.? A desire.? No one know.. All they know is Yuuka is flower youkai that exist for a long time.. Drew power from numerous plants around the world and command them.. Don't worry.. You will be fine.. Yuuka is not as scary as you think as long you are kind to the nature..

I really like this version of Yuuka's origin. She was a girl who could hear plants, and all they did was scream at her because they were cold/hungry/not getting enough sun...

So she torched all the plants. All of them. Then she got killed by the villagers in retaliation, and became a Youkai inextricably bound to plants.

That's exactly why it makes no sense.

- Hates flowers
- Lose humanity because she burned flowers (what?)
- Acquire flower blossoming powers

Did Loki or some other trickster deity have a hand in this? Most of the humans who turned into youkai did something particularly heinous in life.

This is why it is ridiculous.

I know it's hard, but think.

-All she can hear, day and night, is the screams of flowers
-Flowers are selfish, they only care about themselves
-She snaps, goes crazy and burns all the flower fields in sight (probably some people too)
-Despite her best efforts the flowers continue to scream because they're so numerous
-She dies either due to exhaustion or the villagers catching up to her
-A youkai is born "on that same day"

I wouldn't put it past Gensokyo - as a living entity - to do something cruel like give the newborn youkai the power to make flowers grow in an uncountable number. Plenty of touhous are as much victim as they are perpetrator, just look at Kaguya and Moukou. Or Keine, who's basically a werewolf.

Sure it's just a battle manga, but I really like this version of Yuuka.
