I think you all would have been much happier if you had come of age in the 1970s.

>> No.8962997

Coming of age in the 70's meant that instead of anime and games and the internet I'd have mail-order books and albums

It would also mean that most of us would have to go outside to get entertaiment and interaction

From a shut-in perspective, that sounds pretty cool. Outside must be like a big MMO or something, and if I was accustomed to it, life might be pretty awesome. In some ways I wish I was born into Nazi Germany or Soviet Russia or something so I would be forced to experience these things.

Unfortunately, I know that glorious sitting-on-a-computer-and-fapping-to-2D-all-day is much better. A shame, really.

I think I would have been smarter and more and have better social skills if internet wasn't around.
Without an easy way to get interact, learn and distract myself with, I would've kill myself because of being lonely or go outside and do something

I could have become a programmer and experienced the dawn and golden age of videogaming first hand, making millions of dollars programming simple games that were still considered revolutionary. Then my company would go bankrupt in the 90s and I'd have to resort to begging for money on Kickstarter to make more games, but still.

Trust me, you don't. You just don't.

I wish this because I'm British.

We had a big "bedroom programming" scene in the late 70s and 80s where teenagers would write games and submit them to magazines and stuff. The irony is that I could now write an indie game and become far more popular thanks to the Web, but I don't really care.

I would take back my book of winning lotto numbers and spend all of my money on Apple, Microsoft, IBM, Dell, AT&T and other tech company stocks. I'd be rich enough to buy an island for /jp/sies 40 years later so we could live in seclusion in peace.

I'd prefer to have come of age in the late 80s. To be at university posting on Usenet before endless September must have been the highest bliss imaginable.

You were imprisoned/tortured/forced to slave labour/killed if you were anything but a docile normalfag in the Soviet Union. Aside from that, there was little to do except starve and spy on/get spied on by your friends and family.

I'd have much easier access to early otaku goods like film rolls and cels of old anime. Cel collection is something of a side hobby of mine.

And I'd get to own a new PC-98 to play my toohoos and VN's.

Pretty cool story here, bro. While dissidents and intelligentsia weren't all that popular during the 70ies, they sure as hell weren't imprisoned.
There was a fucking punk/hippie scene of all things.

Speaking from the perspective of someone who grew up in a soviet satellite I can confidently say life was far simpler, and far harder. But since I didn't "come of age" until the early 80's I guess I can't really speak for the typical lifestyle who lived in the decade prior, can't say that I would be eager trade places with them though.

Also, these gulag horror stories are pretty typical stuff for people who lived on the wrong side of the iron curtain, and this is the only type of propaganda they know. Best to just ignore these red scare types, they'll never change.
