Stage 1 Boss: New Touhou with an animal motif, who has no relation to the plot at all. Has only few lines and will never be seen again after this game.
Stage 2 Boss: An old boss from a previous game returns, but tells the heroes nothing about the plot. May or may not use the old sprites and pictures.(Gotta save time and effort for later stages)
Stage 3 Boss: Another new Touhou who has no relation to the plot itself but can tell Reimu and co where to go next to find the plot.
Stage 4 Boss: Friend of stage 6 boss. Talks a bit about the plot, but doesn't really reveal what's going on. Danmaku has some really weird gimmick, which makes this fight harder than it should be.
Stage 5 Boss: Closest associate of stage 6 boss. Was once a human but became a youkai/ghost/whatever and now she helps the stage 6 boss. Has some dark history but everyone ignores all of it and it is never brought up outside of her profile. Has one survival card which must be timed out. Will become this games' most popular character.
Stage 6 boss: Celestial who has wants to make it easier for people to ascended to heaven. This somehow would cause trouble and the heroes fight her. Final level is set in heaven and weird cloud-like enemys are the main hazards. Despite the plot revolving about heaven, Tenshi is never mentioned.
Extra Boss: Some Shinigami who is not Komachi and was send to deal with the celestial. The heroes already dealt with the celestial in the main story and now they fight the shinigami, because they have nothing else to do. The stage is also heaven but in a different area and the heroes were going to heaven to visit the stage 6 boss.

I friend of mine had a pretty funny idea about a touhou game with male touhous as enemies and Keine,Sakuya and Akyuu as the playable characters(I can't really remember why, it has something to do with history and time being stopped similar to IN).

There would be a dove and a penguin as the first and second stage boss, a genderbend version of Alice and Reisen named Kester and Alan(who happen to be their the brothers of Alice and Reisen, what a coincidence) and as the stage 6 boss some assassin girl.
Extra stage bosses would be Alice and Reisen.

I can't get myself to tell him that his idea is silly due to the boys since it's pretty much his own little gensokyo and I feel a little bad now because I'm the only one he told about it.He puts very much thought into his character design and stories, it's really adorable

Touhou 14: Faint Dreams.

This time Reimu notices something strange with her own shrine doors are randomly locking and hallways are leading to different places. Reimu goes to see what is happening.

Other playable characters and their stories:

Marisa: Shows up to the shrine to hang out but does not see Reimu, goes in to explore only to notice not is all what it seems

Suika : Comes to visit Reimu but can't find her, goes inside to play a trick but runs into a youkai

Stage 1: Inside the Hakurei Shrine
The heroines notice the shrine has become much larger then it once was with doors leading to long hallways infested with small fairies and weak youkai
Stage 1 boss: New character: generic weak youkai. Says she was drawn to the shrine before attacking the main character

Stage 2: Amissing Paradise
Going through random doors leads the characters to one that is simply a very long hallway
Midboss/Boss: New character: A fairy who much stronger than average, but is easily defeated by the main character. Says nothing plot worthy.

Stage 3: Adrift
After going through a door at the end of the hallway the character is in an area with no walls or ceiling, just a floor, after following that floor the character runs into a 獏 who says she has been in this area for a long time and questions why this is strange to the character.

Stage 4: A familiar feeling
After going along the road, it changes to glass into a stage that looks similar to story of the eastern wonderland stage 4, after traveling for a while Reimu and Marisa run into Suika (or suika into marisa) and attack before they can explain themselves. After being defeated they say their innocence and the player-character continues along.

Stage 5: The feeling of another time
After continuing, the character is transported to a place that is not Gensokyo after a perilous stage that features things familiar to humans (or the human village to Suika) and many kinds of small demons/fairies/youkai the play character runs into a human. The human ask how other humans(or such a strong oni) got into this world, and when told they entered though a shrine that has changed the human says "It has been a long time I guess" before attacking the player with danmaku that move in impossible ways and a new bullet type that has a hitbox that changes while flying. After being defeated she says that she is just an incarnation and her master is up ahead.

Stage 6: The land of a dream
After a short stage the character runs into the main boss, a very powerful youkai that has the power to create and manipulate her own world at the expense of the consciousness of a strong spirit or demon. After saying that her power has been weaking she says that the spirit she was stealing consciousness from was at the Hakurei shrine. After a fight that literally destroys the world around you and changes back to the Hakurei shrine the boss is defeated. She says she'll have to look for a "better spirit" before taking a cheap shot at the shrine itself and flying away, forcing repairs.

Extra Stage:
After returning to the shrine, the character notices that the one long hallway is still there and that it is fileld with dangerous youkai, determined to once and for all figure out what happened, she goes down the hallway to the door and opens it to find Mima on the otherside. Mima greats the main character and explains that, after the events of beating Shinki in touhou 5, she decided that she would try her best to become a real god, but after a failed attempt left her unconscious, her mind was taken over by the dream youkai and she was forced to live in her world. After a battle to help her rejuvenate, they go have tea and talk about the events that have happened while she was asleep.

Reimu and Marisa get bored and decide to create an incident. Their plan is running around beating youkai while pretending that there's an incident where there is none, causing a huge ruckus since everyone else tries to beat them to finding the culprit. You play as some would-be detective youkai and try to figure out what's going on by, surprise, beating up everyone involved. Marisa and Reimu tag team as final bosses. Good endings have the youkai side lose and there's a tea party in the shrine, where Mima pops up and fights the player character because she's interested in how some small fry youkai managed to give Reimu and Marisa a hard time.

Who will each encounter Marisa several times as well as having stages with each of the other girls Marisa has been linked to as well as the other girls they happen to live with: i.e. when Marisa runs to SDM pursued by Alice, Alice will have to fight Meiling, Sakuya, Remi and Flan as well as Patchy, for disturbing their piece, and so on.
