I expect it to work because it's worked every time so far, and the problems (crackling and channel imbalances) with this song suggest a bug in the streaming encoder. If I perform an extra trascode to 192k it sounds just fine. I even transcoded it five times in a row without any audible problems.

For my next try I'll try starting with the original compressed file instead.

"Shoutcast" doesn't do any encoding. SAM Broadcaster opens the file, does decoding, applies DSP (disabled in this case) and then uses the standard LAME library to encode to track to the desired format. It then streams to a port at localhost, where Shoutcast DNAS takes the stream and re-transmits it to the Internet.

Anyway, disregarding your cluelessness, you're a terrible poster for using that image.

The stream uses LAME 3.99.5 at 192kbps. There is no audible advantage to switching to AAC at the same bitrate.

Transcoding artifacts will still happen with AAC, and in that case, they could be even worse since SAM uses an embedded AAC encoder (not sure if it's NERO or Fraunhoffer) that's probably quite old.

Vorbis has a chance to be sonically superior and SAM uses the standard vorbisenc library that makes upgrading it to vorbis-aotuv easy, but then Vorbis is not supported by a lot of software (iTunes, WMP and many stream players on smartphones) so that makes it hard to chose.
