I ask if pointing is something that is socially crude in japanese culture, because in a few japanese movies and anime ive seen people respond negatively to pointing. Now it didnt strike me as odd, because pointing in any culture can be an offensive gesture.

To actually see a seemingly candid shot of a distressed person, considering the circumstances, and given the frame of reference i cant tell i that is a mounted camera or there is a photographer behind it, id say i its the latter there would be reason to point. If he were to point or cover his face at a mounted camera, you'd think hed just move out of the way, unless he knew that the camera was being monitored from a security station, which then indicates that he is still indirectly pointing at someone..

That takes us back to the original questions, What significance does this gesture, to the japanese, and is it in fact offensive(to the photographer or security monitor)?

Short answer, Because its japanese and i figured you would know best. /int/ isnt 100% oriented toward japan, and with /jp/s general knowledge, i figured id be wasting less time by asking you.
