Please let me reiterate, they were the only overear headphones available at my shitty corner store electronics dealer. I was not about to drastically reduce my already dwindling quality options by getting basic pc headphones, or even worse in ear sets. I actually got them for only $99 dollars as well, and not the recommended store price of $150, and I don't care what you feel about the quality they supposedly have, they preform a whole fuckton better than the HAMA brand surround headphones that they replaced. Now perhaps if I had $500 to shit around with I would possibly consider something better than what I have right now, perhaps since you are so insistent on the quality you might care to lend me the cash?

- black metal
- folk

Even if I had a 100 foot cord that shit gets tangled, gets in your way, you trip over them, they can be accidentally yanked out of your computer and shit.

You can play your weeaboo music at full blast like I do and no one will be any the wiser, even if they're stood next to you.
Downside for me is that when I got them they felt really tight on my head and so it was hard to wear them for much more than an hour or so at a time. A few months later and they gave me no problems at all though. Perhaps if you left them opened around a pile of books or something whenever you're not using them they'd soon become a bit comfier, but it's not like a have an above average sized head. If you're after closed headphones and for that price range, I think they're perfect however, just takes a while to get used to them I suppose.

Waste of money for most of these.
You want something with a frequency response up to 22KHz, and down to as low as you can get it really.
I've seen too many headphones have crazy high ranges that are just a waste. Maybe if you want your dog to listen to music, sure.

Something I'm not sure of that I hope someone can clarify for me is impedance. At a lower impedance the headset load would be pulling more current, draining power off batteries faster, and more heat too right? however at a higher impedance you'll have a larger voltage drop which could cause distortion I think...
Then again a lot of it depends on your soundcard being able to handle very high sample rates of music when DAC, although that shouldn't be a problem. Why do people use tube amps for music? Wouldn't solid state OP Amp handle it more efficiently with less noise?

Then again, what do I know. I just listen at OGG with some $22 earbuds that have enough frequency range for my ears, connected to any standard output for music. Thanks in advance.

You can't change your range of hearing, but headphones can at least affect which frequencies get boosted.

And different people prefer different frequencies (and combinations of frequencies) over others. That's one of the reasons why music taste is so varied to begin with actually. So some of these things really might be a waste of money for one person, but pretty good for another person.

Cheap $20 earbuds just give you the bare minimum of whole, so you should probably spend $100 on a nicer pair if you listen to music a lot. The difference will be like night and day.

Would there be any tools or boards that are used to alter phase or amplify frequencies for music? Actually, is that what those big things with tube amps are for? Or can you just pull all that stuff fine software side? Wouldn't having a decent rather than magnificent pair of headphones in conjunction with equipment to mess with the music itself work best in that case?

I think it would alter the power factor if that's what you're looking to do right? As in just amplifying dB out. I don't think impedance would mater as long as the set can accept more current without burning out.
Wouldn't the main focus of an amp ironically not be amplification, but to serve as bandpass filters or oscillators for set frequencies apply distortion where you want? That's how I've been picturing it anyhow.

From google.
>If you have headphones designed for portable consumer use that have an impedance of 80 ohms or less it's very likely the manufacture designed them to be driven directly from a typical device like an iPod. Using an amp or DAC with such headphones usually won't improve their sound much, and might even make them sound worse or create other problems like excess noise and channel balance issues. This is especially true if your headphones already get loud enough for your tastes. Generally, 16 – 32 ohm headphones with a sensitivity rating of at least 100 dB/mW do not need an amplifier. The exception might be balanced armature IEMs due to output impedance issues.

If it's cheaper than buying the lenses seperately, I think it's worth it to get the body that comes with two lenses. You'll probably want to buy them eventually anyway. The NEX system is perfect for adapting old lenses to it, so if you find a cheap manual focus lens you can slap it right on your NEX, with an adapter. I wouldn't be concerned with the low light shooting either. Almost all interchangeable lens cameras in the past ~3 years have good high ISO performance, at least much better than a point and shoot or camera phone.

For the lenses, the number in millimeters refers to the distance from the point where the light converges in the lens and the film plane. Basically, this just means that the lower the number, the wider the picture will be. The higher the number, the closer the picture will be. Wide angle lenses tend to make exaggerate distances in their pictures, while telephoto lenses do the opposite by compacting distances and making things seem very close.

Aperture is the number following the mm, usually marked as "f/" or "1:", which is the focal length divided by diameter of the aperture. So a 50mm lens with an aperture of f/1.4 will have a 35mm opening, and be able to let in a lot of light. Of course this is variable (in most cases) and taking a picture with the aperture wide open will create a picture with small depth of field, while taking a picture with it closed will extend the depth of field. There are other factors that affect depth of field such as focal length, but generally these things are unviersal for all lenses. Lenses with a single focal length are called primes, and lenses with a variable focal length are called zooms. Some zooms have a variable aperture as you zoom in and out, but the difference is usually never more than a stop and a half or so.

>> No.8905888

Stops can be referring to the ISO (how sensitive the camera is to light), the shutter speed (how much light the camera lets in), or the aperture (how much light the lens lets in). For instance, say you took a picture at ISO 400, 1/200, f/11, and it came out fine, except that there's too much in focus. So you're going to want to open the aperture (for the sake of simplicity) one stop. Now the lens is at f/8 and is letting in more light, so to compensate you either need to turn down the ISO (one stop in this case would be down to ISO 200) or increase the shutter speed (in this case it would be up to 1/100). A stop could also be referring to tones/exposure or dynamic range. So for instance, say someone takes a picture and it looks dark. You could say that the image is underexposed x stops (and if edited or retaken with stops adjusted will look fine). Or when referring to dynamic range it means the difference between areas of an image that will be pure white or entirely black with no information in those areas recorded. People say black and white film has about 8-13 stops, which is a pretty big range. Slide film and digital cameras have about the same range, somewhere between 3-6 stops I believe.

>> No.8905891

Back to lenses quick. For most digital cameras with interchangeable lenses, you're going to want to multiply the focal length of a lens by 1.5 or 1.6 (or 2.0 for Micro Four Thirds) to get its focal length in 35mm terms. This is because most DSLRs and interchangeable lens systems have sensors smaller than a piece of 35mm film, so they use only the middle of most lenses. Anything around 35mm and lower is considered wide angle, and anything around 70mm and higher is telephoto. A normal lens for APS-C cameras is somewhere around 30mm, and a normal lens for 35mm is around 50mm. A normal lens is a lens that renders things much like people see. Distances are most accurate and field of view is similar to an eye. So for that 16mm it works out to around 24mm equivalent, which is pretty damn wide. The 18-55 will be equivalent to ~28 at the wide end and ~85 at the long end, giving you a bit of both wide angle and telephoto. If you look at point and shoots you'll see them starting at the wide end around 5mm, but since their sensor is so small it could look equivalent to say 28mm lens in 35mm terms. The opposite works too. For 4x5 large format cameras, where the film is 4'x5', a normal lens would be about 150mm. Large formats are an entirely different beast altogether so I won't get into them.

If you're interested in reading up about the more technical side of things, I'd recommend Ansel Adam's book The Camera. Even more importantly, don't stop taking pictures!
