It appears that I'll be visiting Japan from August 18th onwards. The most obvious thing when doing that is to try to go to an anime convention over there.
Unfortunately comiket is a week earlier. So any suggestions for any cons to visit? Couldn't find anything useful on the internets.

One of the reasons I would go to Japan every year is was because of the Japanese Elementary school I was forced into for the time.

As was mentioned before try to get into Animelo Summer Live if you enjoy anime/game related music. You'll also find plenty of stuff to do in Akiba and the other typical spots in Tokyo immediately after Comiket.

A lot of the big name doujin shops will have exclusive items and second runs of some of the more popular artists - although you won't get any of the neat Comiket exclusive tie-in items. I've had to resort to these shops after missing out on some of the harder to find items at Comiket.
