We are about a month away or less from a possible reveal of the next Touhou game (Reitaisai). What are your bets this year? I'm personally joining the underwater/sea crowd that was pushing for this theme last year, there seems to be actual hints for it this time around.

SWR expansion patch.

Plot: Constant leaking of spirits from the underworld have caused spirit devouring yokais to gain power. Introduces 4 new characters. First is a stray spirit (power of possession). Second is a spirit guide or something of sorts (power of emboidment of spirits). Third is a henchmen of the fourth 2hu (some shitty power) and the last is a yokai who devour spirits.

Can play as Ibara (claimed to be the problem by Onozuka), Miyako/Seiga (inquired by Murasa) and Rin (emerges due to the problem) and Murasa.

whatever the next game is, it has to be a spin-off. I think it's definitely too soon for TH14. the main franchise games should be released once every 4 years, like the world cup. and in the halfway point between releases, a fighting game, so that they're like the winter olympics.
we can't have ZUN draining all his brain juices so early on. If the touhou boom ends I'll have to kill myself, and I sort of enjoy living.

I don't see why Mima would be in the next game. When was her last appearance, Mystic Square? That came out like 14 years ago. The only characters from the PC-98 games that have been in other games after tham have been Reimu, Marisa, and Yuuka.

I personally don't care too much, I'll enjoy whatever Zun throws at me. I still have much enjoyment to reap from the other games, since I've only 1cc'd a game on normal once.

i think if any more PC-98 characters were going to show up, they would have by now. I mean, the last one was Yuuka and that was in TH09, and there's been 4 main series games, the 2 Aya games, the 2 fighting games and fairy wars since then without any more PC-98 stuff. I think its done for good.

why do you have to say things that are obviously too good to ever happen? Rinnosuke will never be in a touhou game. Not only that, but ZUN will never reuse characters from older games and instead keep creating shitty new characters. That Yuyuko was in TD was some sort of bizarre miracle.
I would give my left testicle for the next game to have Yuuka as the big boss, Rinnosuke as the EX Stage boss, Medicine as the stage 5th boss, Tewi as stage 4th, and random other characters for the other stages. Yuuka teams up with Tewi to... I dunno, take over heaven and rape Tenshi or something.

He did not say he dislikes her design or that he won't bring her back. He specifically said in an interview that all of the old characters are still there, but that he doesn't want to have to explain where they've been all this time, and he much prefers making new characters anyway, so we just haven't seen her. Also, there is plenty of room for her to be in Windows continuity, because Reimu mentioned someone who could easily be Mima in CoLA chapter 25 when asked about something that should bring up memories of her. In fact, we have no reason to believe that this isn't Mima, and every reason to believe that it is.

Who knows, I still have hopes that we might get a spin off. Unfortunately, we can pretty much judge that it's been a while since ZUN didn't use old characters (as someone has stated before, Yuyuko showing up again was a miracle). Maybe he could try something new, just like Fairy Wars. But I still would love a new main Touhou, as long as ZUN gets some characters that didn't get room for some development on past games. Personally, I would love to see Yumemi and Mima on new Touhous, but that's pretty much unlikely to happen.

ZUN once mentioned about how the extra stage's title in Ten Desires was called "Rise of the Rebellion Flag" which was suppose to give a "sneak preview feeling".

If that is taken with any meaning. Then this may mean that what will happen in the next game may be a rebellion of sorts.

Perhaps some youkais will get fed up with the religion mumbo jumbo that's poping up and try to cause a war among them.

And thus factions from each religion group decide to investigate on the cause of the rebellion.

Team Gensokyo: Reimu & Marisa (bit of a stretch but it might work)
Team Shinto: Sanae and Suwako
Team Buddhist: Nue and Mamizou (a stretch, but also possible
Team Taoist: Futo and Tojiko (seem the most balanced in terms of danmaku)

that or a PoFV type game. But yeah this is mearly speculation fuel for now. The best bet is to wait for Post-Mysticism's release. It'll liekly give you the dirt of what will probably foreshadow Gensokyo's future....

This would be true, if it weren't for the fact that when ZUN researched Taoism when he was making 10D that he realized that Reimu's powers are semi-linked to that. She may be a Shinto shrine maiden, but she also uses powers simalar to a Taoist.

Because of that ZUN's trying to come up with an explanation for this sometime down the road.

Personally because of this, I consider Reimu a mixed breed of religions wrapped into one.
