Buy a prebuilt computer and get:

Sometimes it's cheaper to go premade, and sometimes it's cheaper to do it yourself (for the exact components in both). Just shop around.

But I've been alternating between building my own and buying premade for my entire life. Just do whatever works in the end.

>> No.8810687

From personal experience:

If buying premade gets you a better warranty, go for it, even if you have to pay a bit more.

Unless you're some kind of rich bastard who upgrades every year anyway, I guess.

>> No.8810701

Best idea is to make components yourself. But you`ll need blueprint for that. Which is quite difficult to come by. But if you know right persons. Go for it. Electronics you can get for dirty cheap.

If you buy a refurbished or otherwise used one it's cheaper but otherwise together a computer yourself is cheaper.

>> No.8810713

Depends. Most premades are scams that add a large precentage to the total price. No idea why anyone would want them.

In a few cases, premades are cheaper (when using older hardware), but most of the time, not worth buying anyway.

Just buy what you need. It's not like assembling it yourself is not elementary. If you're that lazy, just pay the shop some tiny assembly fee (like 10$ or less) and you'll still end up paying less for more.

This reminds me of some sillyness I've one seen with premades. Some of them warranty seal the damn box and components inside (such as RAM or HDDs). This means you're voiding your warranty if you want to add RAM or a HDD, or merely just add some new stuff.

This is utterly idiotic. Better get warranty on individual parts, you usually get 1 to 5 years depending on the part.

>> No.8811736

>>8811661

Putting it together is real easy. These days, you just plug the parts in the holes they fit in. There is no fucking with jumpers or cables anymore.

The process of building a computer is pretty much:

1. Put motherboard in case, don't forget the standoffs (little bolt like things that keep you from shocking the metal case, thus the parts)

2. Put in RAM, CPU/thermal paste, GPU, hard drive, sound card, and PSU. These only fit where they go so you don't have to worry about fucking up.

3. Connect wires, make sure fans/heatsinks are on. Power it up, if it turns on you're good to go.

4. Sometimes you have to configure some things in the BIOS, like the RAM timings (Google for this) or ensuring the right drive boot order (HDD, DVD-ROM, USB). So do this.

5. Put in your OS of choice via USB or DVD-ROM. Make sure you select these to boot up first, in the BIOS. Install the OS.

6. Install drivers, configure software.

That's pretty much it.

>There is no fucking with jumpers or cables anymore.
Oh god no don't remind me.

Also I could be wrong, but it seems a lot more difficult to break things now. I have accidentally bricked so many things it's not even funny.

>> No.8811745

>>8811717
Yes, though it's more of a niche thing. There are a few good communities centered around it though.

To be honest, the only difficult part would be the case. You can buy system-on-a-chip and single board computers like the Raspberry Pi, as well as dedicated LCD panels. I have no idea how people make laptop cases unless they get spare parts from manufacturers or something.
