I don't have any trouble maintaining eye contact with people at all. It's such a small action that you can do to gain a lot of trust from people.

Most of the time gazes aren't just used when judging someone. Sometimes people look to see what kind of person you are. If you meet someone's gaze with a soft smile or welcoming eyes you'll come off as an easy-going and nice person, and you won't stand out as much. If you make eye contact with someone who's talking to you, they'll know you're listening to them. If you're talking to somebody and making eye contact with them, they'll listen to you.

For the record, I tend to judge people based more on how they carry themselves, what they're carrying, how they treat others, and what they're wearing.
