I can't stop staring at this. I'm normally not a "needs color" type, but this looks like it would be delicious with some. Also, I'm sure you realize that something about the shading on the hood seems off, but I couldn't do any better, and it didn't jump out at me upon first glance.

Can't say I remember a time when drawthreads were good though. I like them - regardless of the technical quality of art it is nice to see people being creative and trying to hone a new skill... but there is always so much shitstorming and whining.

Frankly, depends on how well the coder can do his job. If anything, a change in difficulty by adding in more shit to dodge, like larger, erratic moving silhouettes would be nice. That way you can even incorporate more shit into it.

You're properly trying to draw muscles, which is good. Just keep routinely drawing bodies, preferably as fast as possible.

So, the ear is dislocated, and face is looking strange.
Have yet to figure out shading and a reason to why I'm posting flawed results.

Now If you want some more detailed tips about your picture, avoid drawing too many lines, when you add to many instead of details you add some kind of rubbish to the drawing itself making it thus untidier. Avoid lines from objects that are on different planes to be continued, like the one with the shoulder and the sword. Making lines sharper adds relief and depth to your drawing too. The hair is a complete mess, I would redo it from the beginning. The rest... well it's your style, you have to keep practicing.

i might ask what exactly is wrong with the body. Yeah the ankle is inward a little too much (going for a cutesy effect but I guess I went a few degrees too far), but I can't exactly see what's wrong with it other than that, especially since it's from above so its hard to see.

The legs don't follow the perspective properly. When seen from above, the whole body should be shaped like a cone, like V, but here it's (exaggeratedly) more like an X shape. The weapon and the hands have conflicting angles as well. From the way she's holding it, the weapon's tip should be much closer to her face.

The style doesn't look super deformed, but the head is huge compared to the body. Not the only way the head looks separate from the body, she's clearly leaning heavily behind so the head's position is a bit unnatural; I would expect to see the bottom of her chin from the angle she's in. Judging by the nose, it also appears that she's bending her head to the right while looking to the left, which is strange.

What's a good step to learn how to draw? I've taken lessons outside of school when I didn't like it in my childhood. In those lessons, I learned how to copy another picture instead of actually drawing my own. Attempting my own picture without a reference turns out badly. The anatomy is non-existent, the pose is weird the body is off. And I don't even know who I'm drawing anymore. I also tend to have a hard time getting the image I want to draw in my head at all. I'm willing to practice, I really am. Probably too shy to post anything here, but I'm at least willing to remotely practice at least for 4 hours a week and if I have time, much, much more.

Always use some kind of a reference. There is no shame in using one; tracing isn't the same as referencing. Draw from life or take your own photos if you can. If that's not an option, there is a wealth of amateur artistic nudes on the internet.

Block out the shape of the hair first and put down a solid value before drawing stray hairs and details. Try to bring the whole drawing up at once though; don't get too fixated on drawing individual features while ignoring everything else.

About the first story, I have to say the opening paragraph puts me off. It takes away from the impact of language when people use complex/toned words/structures where simple ones would work ("existed" instead of "was" etc.). I'm sure the story is good though, this is just my pet peeve since many amateur writers that try too hard do this.

I don't have the time to read the whole thing so I glanced over the beginnings of each, and IMHO the third story (The Confession) had the most well-written and gripping opener. I think I'll go read the rest of it.

To tell the truth, I didn't find any of the stories in Nocturns to be that well done at all. I'm sure it's been said countless times, but they really could have put more work into editing those stories. I hope, for the sake of the project that they get some better editors in there, or at least more or perhaps better writers. No offense to the writers who wrote for the first issue of course.

All of my effort went into making the eyes not terrible. I can't make good symmetric eyes for the life of me. I couldn't figure out how to make a mouth like that for the life of me. This is where you go wrong. You can't say you want to get better but refuse to step outside of your comfort zone. Nobody ever got better at doing anything at a significant pace doing only what they liked. Athletes work their bodies in ways that hurt, artists work with subjects they are uncomfortable with. Getting better is honestly not fun much of the time.

I tend to fiddle with details. To me, eyes are the huge hardest part of drawing animu shit. I can get any mechanical parts like mediocre anatomy or inanimate objects overlapping pretty easily (I drew weapons for a long time) because I'm a horrible OCD aspie. You should really work on color, it's probably the easiest part once you hit a style that you like. If you have nice coloration you can fiddle around with abstract details to keep yourself going while you practice. Even if it's not something significant you could probably make yourself practice the hard stuff more if you work on color first.

One of the monster artists for MGQ (frfr) used to be pretty mediocre (their art from an old VN was messy and awkward) but the more they seem to make themselves make awkward art the more the general quality goes up. They improved a lot just between alpha design and the game's art itself, and even the game's art has a huge quality range. whenever I see things like this I just think, wow, I could get to a level I feel is worth it in a couple years, but to master it I'd need to spend several years. And it feels different with drawing than something like programming. With programming, I already understand basically everything I ever hear anyone talk about it, after five years of sitting around doing minimal coding work and thinking a lot and reading a lot.
