Anime characters have flat, even skin tones. The bodysuit makes the wearer's body match the mask's color, and also creates something more close to a cell-shaded anime character or even a figurine.
Real skin more often than not looks awful with an anime mask.

1. It's not latex. It's some kind of shiny coating on spandex. (notice the texture, and the seams... latex cannot be sewn as the holes would cause it to rip)

There is NO cotton in the blend used for Japanese suits. Good luck finding the material in the U.S.. It's next to impossible and the vender for the material refuses to ship overseas.

I really doubt she is using one of those, but no, they're not painful. They can be a little uncomfortable if they're not designed for long-term wear and you wear them for more than an hour or so.

I don't think it looks like the character. The wings could use work. This character has a smaller head when compared to the rest of her body to give her a mature look. I think this may look awkward on the customer because of the mask size.

I remember this! The kig player in question made all kinds of comments on their Facebook page and random kig forums about it. For example (paraphrased): "Can't believe people still ask my gender when I've been talking about having a pregnancy scare."

They also commissioned the Aki Izayoi mask that's for sale. Was pretty much one of GouKaiOh's first customers and certainly one of the most regular.

Actually a pretty good kig IMO but seems to have dropped off of the face of the planet, sadly. Was that why they disappeared? The whole "pregnancy" thing?

There's also things like ordering instructions for various studios with English translation, at least in the first one. Very professional looking. That couldn't be farther from the truth, unless you mean not in public. The Sakura matsuri in DC was basically constant posing for photos and interacting with festival goers.

And yeah, even as someone who is extremely picky about mask quality, I would never grief anyone about theirs because the mask does not make the person.

It would be nice if the etiquette was different, there would probably be some nice honest critique here. I don't like the cruelty, but there's too much circle jerking and non seriousness in the general public community. You can only really talk technique once in a while.

I actually do cosplay myself, which is part of the reason why I got interested in kig. I just never actually leave the convention area. It may be weird, but I'm ok with doing unusual things in a place where usual things are expected. I actually even do crossplay, but I make sure to change at the convention. To me, doing something like that is no where near as scary as going bowling like the poster above. I also never really venture outside of 4chan, and while I should have guessed it, I didn't know we were seen in a bad light.

Also, speaking of cosplay, did you guys get kicked out of /cgl/ a pretty long time ago? I liked how those threads had more focus on making things. I even tried to make a mask myself which didn't work out, but I may try again later if i get motivated. I typically stick to sewing, so I had very little experience with sculpting and frp.

I do cosplay too anon. If you post to these threads I will try to help you out with critique. It's always nice to have a second pair of eyes when doing a project. The kigurumi threads have almost always been in /jp/. I think we have one or two people who post in /cgl/ now and then but /cgl/ moves faster than /jp/ if it's con season and most cosplayers don't post contribute. It's people from the community itself.

Everything wrong with the newer community. They think it's just about acting like an anime character 24/7. Performers are supposed to discuss the hobby with each other, the cutesy anime part is for the audience to see. And for gatherings and private stuff or whatever, though I'd still categorize that as "performance". If you're not in costume get out of character, damnit. Or at least be less horrid about it.

facebook frequently deletes accounts with fake names. In wyu's case I think they actually thought those were'nt her photos and that her large amount of friends was suspicious. she actually talked to the staff and convinced them that she isn't impersonating anyone, and they unlocked it.

Specifically the fake pregnancy/miscarriage episode by a UK Kigurumi that happened on a facebook thread. The person in question was called out on to many inconsistencies surrounding the supposed event. The discussion that ensued was sort of heated.. Wyu got involved on the thread, tried to make light of the situation. No one was having it, so he proceeded to act like a child having a temper tantrum.

It's nice to actually see civil discussion here. I used to start a lot of Kig threads here but have sort of drifted into watching.

I personally love it when kigs post here, it allows us to ask questions and get a greater insight into actually doing kigurmi.

I'd personally love to get into it still but he whole cost thing is a major barrier. Also I'm not really sure I'd ever go to cons since I don't really enjoy the ones around here very much. I'm not so big on the anime anymore and the video game content was fairly lacking last time I went.

I'm going to start to learn sewing once I get a handle on drawing so I should be able to start trying to make my own costumes which I think will push me into going to more cons.

Do you mean a prostitute or a girlfriend? I could get a prostitute but in the end it would be no different than my realdoll. Getting a girlfriend is very unlikely for me even if I'm pretty well off financially. I've been a shut-in for a long time and never had one before. I'm real awkward and shy despite my age, also I'm short and not great looking. I don't really have anything going for me in that regard. As I mentioned above you don't necessarily have to have a costume, just be up for it and be able to act feminine and have feminine features (if you're not a girl) If everything looks good I'll purchase you the best mask and everything you need, even clothes and whatever else. I'm really considering getting into kigurumi but the price is just such a huge barrier.

I'm not poor but damn, it's a serious investment. I'm considering gettingin to cosplay/crossplay to see if I enjoy that before I splurge on a kig, also this way I'll at least have costumes for when I do.

Sounds like a viable plan. One of the hardest requirements of performing kigurumi is good posture. Having a large range of interesting and varied poses is mandatory if you want to perform well. (Either in a photo shoot or in public.) Cosplaying/Cross dressing can prep you for this. Having some costumes can be good as well.

If you are going to invest in a mask, are you going to choose a specific character? I find performers who portray specific characters tend to do better than people who do "generic" ones. (Because they can role play and interact as if they are that character.) Although at the end of the day it depends on the performers themselves.

Go for it, if it's what you want. Which maker would you choose if you're ready?
