Plots are never that much of a problem. Dukes are quite capable of growing by marriage and conquest the same way player does.
Letting them duke it out on low crown authority just leads to problems in long term.
Also provides you shit for levies, both because of its low bonus and because they are often dead. Medium is the best for stability. High is good if you are well in control over your kingdom.
Absolute is pure shit.

In my latest game, I haven't started a war in 100 years (last was putting a pretender matrimonially marriaged to one of my dynasty's females on the kingdom of Portugal after I done fucked up and forgot to check up on heirs, I believe) and I haven't had someone declare war on me at all, I think. Frankly, I don't give a shit about reduced levies because there's no one to use them on.

Growth by marriage would be frightening if it weren't for the fact that 3/4ths of the map is already owned by my dynasty. Probably more, since counties aren't painted in dynasty view. There's only so much that other people can claim before they hit the brick wall of de Valois. God knows I've worked my ass off to get my family tree inbred to hell and back for enough people to never marry outside if they want.
