We can't have any discussion since waifu, anime manga are supposed to be in /a/. Traditional Japanese things get deleted because they are not Otaku. And all off anime otaku type hobbies are supposed to go in /k/ or /toy/. Top of all that /jp/ is worksafe. Which doesn't make much sense since what most anime otaku are interested about is 2D porn.

This whole system lacks brain and mainly is due to that they let userbase have what they want on specific board. Some boards don't allow it since they have different moderators who don't agree with each others views. And userbase wants to do what they want to do and providers give everything to please it.

Not that guy, but it depends how you like it, I love moe, but I think that nowadays it's weak. Same with ecchi series, I love them but trying to put a 'deep' plot around them is just insulting.

Sometimes these shows don't satisfy the demographic even. But if we complain people think we hate moe/ecchi altogether which isn't true.

Anime seems weak, I know a lot of us are just avoiding the currently airing series to pursue VNs or learn japanese so we can do so. It's looking more interesting than anime right now.

Sonya doesn't give a shit about Yasuna and there are absolutely no heartwarming moments, even if they're teased, it's only bait and switch.

I had hopes for Nisemonogatari and Fam this season. Except Nisemonogatari was like Bakemonogatari, but less interesting and with a bigger budget (which ironically made it less interesting because half the interesting stuff in Bakemonogatari was presentation). It had it's moments, but it isn't getting archived alongside Bakemonogatari.

I really enjoyed Fam this season, but Last Exile has always been a show that lacked universal appeal. A lot of people will be turned off by at least one thing in either show, and not understand at least one major component. But half of Last Exile is really just looking at Murata designs.

However during the season I found myself enjoying Milky Holmes having to wade through shit like Guilty Crown and shit.

BRS is turning out to be a treat though, despite its late release in the seasons. For a psychological anime with unconventional animation, it ranks above Penguin Drum for me and is a nice alternative to Madoka. The relationships certainly feel a little more natural and real, and the angst is visually portrayed well.

Looking at next season, I'll probably sit through Fate. Worth watching, but not amazing. I really have a preference for original works (and SHAFT adaptations). Cute boys doing cute things is always fun, and grown men in pink skirts and chainsaws is bound to be a blast.

You mean shit;gate? It might have a more complex plot than Madoka, but editing, storytelling, art direction, drama, etc all loose out to Madoka. The only place it might compete is animation quality control, because lolshaft.

If I wanted just plot I'd read LNs. If you only watch anime as a way to spoonfeed LNs and plots to you without you having to read anything, chances are you won't appreciate anime.

That's interesting, since it's pretty much filled with gore and death and whatnot, heck there was even a separate panel in the manga with a nazi zombie eating an infant.

But if gore and violence is the criteria for grimdark, meduca probably about the same as any other mainstream anime? It isn't lighthearted, but there is so little actual violence and gore.

I mean there are like 5 actual characters in Madoka, and for gore, you have Mami's head and QB getting shot.

I could only watch Milky Holmes & Danshi Kokosei last season so I'm not too sure, but Unicorn 05 and Kore Wa Zombie are must-watch for me. Sakamichi no Apollon, QB:R, Madaka Box, Sankarea & KtB might be interesting.

I didn't like 04. It made me really dislike Banagher. He is such a weak protagonist. He talks so much talk, and yet never seems to walk the walk. Here we are after 4 episodes of this, what, 6 episode series? And he hasn't done anything. He hasn't matured. He is constantly crying. I don't even know what he is doing or where he is going as a character. He very rarely fights.

At least characters like Kira, who were super preachy and anti fighting, had the skills to back their words up. To defend what they wanted. Banagher is just a joke.

Grimdark is a meme that means "disney horror". But it's really something that you don't use unironically.

I can't call Madoka horror. The main theme behind the series is pure positivity ("Madoka loves everyone") and the ending is extremely feel good. It's the usual magical girl fare. It would be like labeling Sailor Moon as "horror".

However it was an original work (meaning not an adaptation of anything) with really attractive character designs. I enjoyed it for those simple reasons. Plus everyone likes magical girls in general.

I thought "grimdark" referred to fictional scenarios that was so oppressively dark and awful that you could no longer sympathize with any of the characters in the story. For example, if I wrote about a mass murderer who killed his victims as sacrifices to begin the apocalypse in a world where most people are slaves without legal rights and none of the authorities care what the "hero" does.

Because readers can't sympathize with anyone or anything happening in the story, few people want to read it and the few that do lose interest quickly since there is no way to attach emotionally to the characters or the story.
