Lets say you want to get someone to acknowledge visual novels as a serious form of storytelling.

What three translated titles would you use to accomplish this?

subtle vn recommendation thread, you can't even read moon
get out please

>> No.8751576

Saya no Uta for its Nietzschean influences.

>> No.8751579

Why would you want to mislead someone like that?

When the Seagulls Cry.

Actually thinking of getting my English teacher to read it. He freaking loves unreliable narrators and mysteries.

Katawa Shoujo for its positive portrayal of the handicapped.

>> No.8751613

Sangoku Rance for its Japanese history and social commentary on sexual consent.

It's not about misleading people, it's about making them change their preconceptions so they can later approach the more hermetical works with an open mind.

Why is everyone so self-depreciating about enjoying VN anyway?

Probably Symphonic Rain. That or Sharin no Kuni, but the latter is ero.

Musume Shimai, Ayumarine, and Double Phase - The Asou Twins - Anal and Pussy Enlargement. Though the first two still need a translation.

I would probably, on the contrary, introduce them to secondary forms of media that are not VNs, in which the specific medium of the VN enables it to better accentuate the ideas espoused in more linear forms that can only be done hypertextually as opposed to in actuality with a VN.

Borges' the Garden of Forking Paths is one such example.

>Borges conceives of "a labyrinth that folds back upon itself in infinite regression", asking the reader to "become aware of all the possible choices we might make."

Now, Borges' had to communicate this effect in a meta fashion, hence its result being hypertextual. But a VN doesn't have to go beyond into the hypertextual layer. The choices are actually made by our player--and in an infinite regression we go back and re-do and re-make our choices fashioning whatever new narrative there is out of those. It already is what Borges could only communicate hypertextually in an age prior to the digital computer.

>Nietzschean influences

I never read any overt Nietzsche in Saya no Uta. Care to elaborate?

>> No.8753332

Why would I want them acknowledged?
So I can smart by reading "serious stories"?

I don't get why everyone wants to depict the books they read and movies they watch as anything else than entertainment.
Even videogames are trying to be art nowadays even though I see no benefit in it

For the same reason you watch other stuff rather than just porn. Why bother to watch anything else when you can just masturbate? The act of orgasm it quite equivocally the greatest of the carnal pleasures, so I cannot comprehend why someone would decide to do anything otherwise.

What's your point?
I would watch porn and masturbate all the time if I could, but that's not how the human body works and by doing it too often I'd eventually deprive less pleasure from it

>> No.8753361

>>8753340
Most people already do masturbate. You need something to do on your downtime, though. Masturbating four times a day becomes a lot less enjoyable.

That's a poor if not nonsensical response.
How does the opinion of others affect what you do or read?

Are you claiming that anything else done other than masturbating is merely a means to what is really the aim of masturbation?

But you feel the need to disagree with my opinion, thus, expressing your dissent means that it that opinion must affect you in some way or the other, does it?

That's my whole point, most people seem to "enjoy art" only to make themself look better and for social acknowledgement

This. Nerds end up like OP because as they get older they feel guilty for having "immature" hobbies and tastes, so they end up trying way too hard to validate them in the eyes of normals and/or the uninitiated.

"Look!! It's 'art'!! I'm a grown-up too!!"

Pathetic.

>thus, expressing your dissent means that it that opinion must affect you in some way or the other, does it?

Asking a question doesn't immediately mean it's some life-impacting situation on either end, the question is simply "what does it matter if it's serious if the end result is the exact same thing regardless". There's no deep hidden meaning here, it's genuinely a question, the arbitrary view of a form of entertainment means nothing because it's still entertainment and you will view it the same way no matter what others see it as.

>>8753409

Then there is nothing to discuss since you've already decided that despite any contrary opinion, you're going to continue believing what you believe.

I guess the few serious posts answered what I needed.

Yes, it was actually a thinly veiled recommendation thread. Well, sort of, it's not like I needed any recommendations, but I don't intend to go and try to get anyone to read VN.

Also, the "masturbation is all you need and the only reason to enjoy art is to appear smart" crowd are the most soul-crushingly empty people I've seen in a while. And here I thought /jp/ won't surprise me anymore.

Deleting in a moment since just seeing this makes me sad.
