It's okay for the first 3 or so chapters where events are fairly light hearted and they're not dwelling too long on any single chain of events. After that it introduces some inane conspiracy and an attempted rebellion, which given the incredibly silly setting feels out of place and doesn't feel well thought out at all, and events start dragging on far too long with pointless bullshit. Luckily, most routes end with Chapter 5. For the two main routes however, it carries on with 5 or so more hours of incredibly boring conspiracies and the like. It doesn't help that most of Chapter 4 and 5 on play out nearly exactly the same for every route.

Sure, given the number of heroines, you're nearly guaranteed to find one you like, but because of the number of them, most of them aren't very fleshed out.

Why would the fact that it's moving at a decent speed bother you? Unless you take that as a sign of being a poor quality translation or something, but Ixrec's translations tend to be pretty solid in works where the original text is pretty straightforward, so I don't think that's too much to worry about. The only times he tends to struggle are works like Cross Channel where the writing style itself is important, and even there it could have easily just been his inexperience at the time as much as anything else, I've heard his Forest translation was much better. (Haven't gotten around to reading that one myself so can't give my own opinion on the matter.)

There's nothing wrong with restating a common opinion. The speculative and general nature of the original remarks were appropriate for someone who has heard information from a source he trusts but isn't completely sure due to a lack of experience.

For example, I trust that the LHC at CERN won't create a black hole that will swallow the Earth or make a portal to a dimension full of lizard men, even though I don't have any experience with the math that underlies it. Additionally it's been some time since we heard them beg for people to buy stuff, and they've already added a couple games this year which should be decent sellers for them (Eroge and Otoboku). Anime DVDs don't release simultaneously like that though, do they? Only simultaneous releases I've ever seen as far as that's concerned are stuff like crunchyroll/niconico releasing subs at the time of airing.

>> No.8763323

One thing is that simultaneous releases would have complaints that the Japanese would get an inferior product at the same time, being a censored version of what the West would get.

>> No.8763329

>>8763323
Wouldn't that be something to complain to their lawmakers about? It's not like the developers are censoring the games because they want to.

I don't think simultaneous releases of eroge are possible, if something has a chance are all-ages VNs, and even those are slim.

And about simultaneous releases, how about making English demos available at the same time of the Japanese full releases?

>> No.8763793

>>8763333
>Actually a lot of Japanese people like the fact that we get uncensored releases, because it's the only way they'd ever get a chance to see them.

Yes, but they wouldn't be so thrilled if the west got an uncensored and cheaper release at the exact same time they got the title, thus why there will never be an effort to get them out at the same time.

>> No.8763803

>>8763793
Yeah, true enough.

>> No.8763821

>>8763793
I don't think that's the biggest reason. It's mainly that translation takes way too long, there's just so much more compared to a video game. You'd have to have a bilingual writing team. Even novels anticipated as best-sellers in America take months at minimum to get translated.

>> No.8764083

It's also worth remembering that only a tiny fraction of titles get official translations, so with so many old choices to bring over, there is little reason to add the hurdles or risk a leak to go for a same time release.

>> No.8764967

>>8764083
Also that games (and anime) here cost half to a third of what they do in Japan.

>> No.8764976

I think they could potentially make it work if they just reduced the download only price a lot to be the same as the price they're charging Western customers, and then charge that higher price for the hard copy. Most people that are willing to pay that price wouldn't buy a downloadable only edition anyway, even if it's cheaper, so I think it'd kind of work out. Probably not the kind of thing they'd actually be willing to try any time soon, but I think it could work.

I'm pretty sure that if it would earn them more money, they'd do it. I put a lot more stock in market pressures and greed than I do Random Hopeful Guy on An Internet Board.

Well, true enough, I am just a random hopeful guy, but then it's not like every decision businesses make is necessarily the one that will make them the most money. Businesses make stupid decisions all the time.

Not saying that I'm more qualified to make the decision than they are or anything, but you shouldn't just assume that market pressures and greed will automatically make every business as efficient as possible. You see illogical shit happen all the time too.

Insem' is really pushing to release HoshiMemo soon. He went from 20/44 edited to 25/44 edited in 3 days. Also is he doing his own editing? That probably isn't a good idea.

Editing your own writing is not a bad idea at all, as long as a week or two has passed since you drafted it. Once you've forgotten the original way you shaped it, you can look at it from a pretty neutral perspective and catch a lot of awkward stuff you missed before.

When you're translating japanese, though, I guess it would probably be best to have someone else fluent editing in order to catch misinterpretations of meaning that sneak in

It's not a good idea at all. You miss your own fuck ups in spelling and grammar that you think are right as well as problems with your own presentation that will be unclear to others but not to you because of how you read and interpret things.

I'll be blunt, Magical Teacher is definitely not far from the Sensei games in term of loli factor. It's actually the first game to be licensed that actually have a loli as the main character and all it implies (almost HALF of the h-scenes in Magical Teacher involve the loli character).
