I think gelbooru has annoying ads and way too much shitty art so I stick with danbooru.

If you don't have the bandwidth to host other people's work, don't host it. The premium model and restrictions of Danbooru remind me of websites like eBaum's World or a BitTorrent tracker you have to pay for (I'm guessing they exist).

I wish they had higher standards and a better, more serious user base.

I browse Pixiv a lot, so I don't really use Danbooru for anything else than translated stuff or for finding very specific sorts of images that are easier found with their tagging system.

i use danbooru because they've got a decent set of info filled out (when you hit the ?) for when i need to backtrack to a pixiv or a website
i use gelbooru for when i need 3+ tags or porn

Third time I've had to answer this. Use better_better_booru with a basic account. Change the script to edit the settings, and there. Done.
