What tea are you drinking today, /jp/?

I've never had green tea that is actually green. For me it's always dark yellowish or lightly brownish.

A Darjeeling tea, called "Singell 1st Flush". I don't know the name of the estate it's grown on, though.

It's very light, with a floral smell. Taste is lemony, but not too strong.

There are any number of reasons why it might not be green. Try brewing at a lower temperature. Use a thermometer to be sure... try brewing at 70 C (158 F) for 2 minutes and see if that works.

I buy my tea from Yuuki-cha and Dao Tea. Both are easily googleable. There are a lot of overpriced, sub-par tea vendors online, but these are two of the few honest ones I've found so far. in b4 viral marketing

I got some amazing vanilla chai at the renaissance fest last year, and made my last batch of it today.

Ever make tea with one of these? Somehow I like it more than tea bags, even though I don't think there's actually much difference. Maybe the tea leaves you get that are loose are fresher or something.

They're generally higher grade, yeah. Tea bag leaves are usually dust, and poor quality, whereas you can get the full SUPER TIPPY ULTRA FLOWERY etc etc kind of stuff with loose.

It's what I've read, I'm not sure exactly. I think it has something to do with boiled water being more easily colonized by bacteria, but that's just my guess.

I don't know about a healt hazard... If pasteurization works, shouldn't this? The only caveats I have heard are to not use water that's been boiled previously, because the lack of dissolved oxygen affects the flavor...

Pasteurized products are also sealed in sterilized containers under food-grade packing conditions. Tea isn't, unless it's bottled commercially.

I usually just drink some kind of cheap "orange spice" tea with my waifu. I am not a tea connoisseur by any means, I take my tea with lots of sugar, too.

chemfag here, more aroma if you brew it at room temperature.
it's called maceration (or cold extration, but maceration is the specific term for beverage making) you don't have esters (the main chemical that give flavors n shit) evaporating, and you don't damage no chemical that would ruin the tea.
the taste is definitely different, but you need 6 good hours to 12, depending on which result you want. Note that the taste will not be as strong as if infused, but the flavour will definitely be richer, though It can be bitter if poorly done.

As for bacteria, it's not like you didn't filter the water and drink in a glass that wasn't washed for three good month. Water being a health hasard, really /jp/ ? well maybe if you live in mexico, but afaik nobody died from drinking water that was in contact with air for 12 hours.

I've never really been good with tea. I feel I should drink the stuff, as I'm British and all, but I always find the window between it being too hot to drink and unpleasantly lukewarm is too small to drink the stuff. Is dealing with the range of temperatures just an acquired taste?

Depends on the type of black tea you've got. The brewing temperature and time should be written on the tag of your tea. But yes, mostly it's like pretty close boiling temperature for black tea.

There's asamushi, which is lightly steamed and brews a very light green hue. There's chumushi, or 'medium' steamed which brews a bright greenish-yellow. And then there's fukamushi, which brews much closer to green.

Matcha is specially harvested powdered tea. It tastes very good, but making matcha is completely different from ordinary tea brewing. If you've ever had good green tea ice cream, that is the taste of matcha.

Try pouring a bit of a late oolong infusion on some vanilla ice cream. If the ice cream is straight from the freezer and you leave the oolong to cool a little bit, it'll freeze into a shell that'll flavour the ice cream.

If all you've had is cheap grocery store tea, I don't see why anyone would think tea tastes good without milk and sugar. The only place I have ever found to order tea that is really worth drinking is online. The best places keep their tea preserved in bulk in cool, sealed storage and pack their tea to order, as opposed to a grocery store that has had their tea sitting on a shelf for who-knows-how-many-years and, because of where it's being sold, was never high-quality to begin with.
