A thief, who committed 118 thefts in 4 years and stolen the value of 800,000 yuan in total, was arrested by Xiamen Siming Police in his home Wednesday, reports Xiamen Economic Daily.

The thief surnamed Chen, is in his 30s and has been jobless after he came to Xiamen from his hometown Zhangpu 4 years ago.

The police locked Chen after carefully analyzing surveillance videos captured around the scene in Xiamen's old town areas where similar burglaries were reported in recent years. They caught Chen in his home near the No. 8 Market on Wednesday morning, but Chen, who is addicted to gambling, asked the police if they were arresting him for the Mark Six lottery game when they broke into his home, according to the report.

The police said Chen always targeted buildings and rental apartments where mostly migrant workers live in, and acted alone when the house owners were out for work. Usually Chen would check out the houses carefully before committing the crime. Besides gambling away all of the money he has stolen, the "Otaku" thief would spend his other time sleeping or staying at home, the report said.

According to the police, Chen set a new record for the number of thefts committed by a single thief in Siming District.
