Not really, smells don't at all have to be the exact same material as whatever is giving off the smell.

However, with shits, microscopic shit particles in fact do get in the air (and can even be measured as a kind of air pollution), and so technically yeah bathroom shit-air actually does have shit particles in it. I can't stand the fact that my toilet's in the same space as my shower; I keep my toothbrush covered up because of it actually (in fact if your toothbrush is within 6 feet of the can, guess what, you're likely brushing your teeth with shit particles).

Other nasty fact is that about 10% of smell is taste derived. So you may be subtly tasting other peoples' shit in public restrooms.
