870023 No.870023 [Reply] [Original]

28.6 next Saturday there'll be a SWR netplay tournament for European players. Register before 27.6 - more info at http://koti.mbnet.fi/diablosk/swrtour.txt

There's currently 20 people signed up, I'm hoping for at least 32. Everyone join in, don't worry about your skill level.

Keep this thread bumped please.

>>To sign up, get on irc.mizuumi.net with your favourite client, type /query Satsu (or doubleclick his nick) and type in the following information: [Nick - Character1 - Character2 - Country]

>> No.870027

>>870023
I suck ass in SWR but can i still join?

Character 1 & 2?
...if you mean, two opportunities with two characters or something like that, fuck them.

>> No.870037

>>870027
there's no any sort of skill requirement, go ahead.

>> No.870041

This is just a test for Satsu to check how many people he can beat before he wins the tournament.

read the txt. The character2 is a backup character - if you lose your first match, you can choose to switch character to your backup character. If you win the fight, you may not change. it's a single elimination tournament where you play with the first to 2 (=best out of 3) rule

>> No.870058

lol.

Sorry, it's strictly European. If this tournament goes really well, some us player will probably host one too.

Super noob question

Can you observe matches like you could in IaMP? I do have SWR installed since day 1 but for some reason haven't gotten around to play it...but wouldn't mind watching some live matches

>> No.870080

>>870071
Yes.

>> No.870094

>>870080

How does that work in SWR? In IaMP you could choose connection type (play, watch, etc) before you connect to someone but since SWR has the network stuff built in and it just has connect to ip ? does it auto put you into observe mode?

It's automatic, you just have to join by pasting the source of the Host, and when you join you'll be watching everything from the point they are playing.

What's so bad about it? If you think there are horrible matchups in this game (like some people do) you can fix it this way.
>>870068
The delay is just too huge overseas, the quality of the tournament would drop A LOT if we allowed overseas matches.

>>870071
>>870094
Yes, you just connect to an IP. It asks 対戦しますか? first, (Will you fight?) and if you choose いいえ (No) another question will appear if there's an ongoing fight. It asks if you want to spec an ongoing match, just answer はい to that one.

While some weathers might be a bit unpleasent, they don't make this game unplayable.

Atlantic Ocean.
America vs Europe is profit because the Atlantic Ocean.
You should be fine as long as you're not a Ruski or something like that from Asia.

And fuck you, 2 characters if you want to in each turn is retarded; the best would be to rig the tourney to 2 characters, and you choose one for each assault vs each Player, without changes between Rounds.

I'm in New York and the last time I played a Britfag the delay was pretty atrocious. I don't blame them for limiting it. As it is, Europe is pretty fucking big and it's probably bad enough with like Portugal vs. Finland or other such combinations.

>> No.870160

>>870148
England - Eastcoast is the best you'll get, I guess that would be *somewhat* playable. But yeah, There's plenty of Finnish and Russian players signed up and the delay from there to anywhere in US is completely unplayable.

Just play any, none of them are hard. I'd advice against playing Remilia at first though, you will probably end up not understanding how to play her properly and spam 22b/c and not learn a thing about this game. It beats newbies but as for learning the game it's counterproductive.

In a normal tourney, you can choose which of your 2 characters you want to use between matches, and the loser of the current match has the option to change. In this tourney, you HAVE to use your first character until you lose, then you HAVE to use the second.

>> No.870504

>> No.870563

I personally think this is good - with the other system where you choose your main for each game, what if player1 has characters A and B, player2 has characters C and D, and player1 refuses to fight A vs C and B vs D, and player2 refuses to fight C vs B and D vs A? Having main+backup character disallows counterpicking, but helps if there's a very disadvantageous matchup.

>> No.870585

>>870563
Oh well. Suck it up or forefeit. Counterpicking is moot; by these rules, you're forced into a disadvantage. Not that it matters in a game this new, but if p1's main is weak against p2's main, that's a guaranteed first match gone. Not to mention Reimu and Aya are leagues ahead of the rest of the cast.

>> No.870604

Fuck this shit. Anyone hostan?

then you just have to beat them with your alt.

>> No.870706

>then you just have to beat them with your alt
Twice. And they can still change characters. Face it, this system is scewed. If you win the first match, you're guaranteed to win the entire set if you've got the right backup.
A-B vs C-D
1-C beats A. 2-B beats C. 3-D beats C twice.
I predict the winner using Aya with Reimu as backup.

>>870604

>>870713

>> No.870721

>>870706
the matchups arent THAT bad. Plus, do you think the "normal" system of having only one character you'd have to stick with is better then?

There's no perfect system.

>> No.870728

>>870721
Wrong again. The 'normal' system lets you use at least 2 characters, and you can change between matches. Here, you're forced to use your first character, and can only change if you lose a match. You obviously know nothing about tournament play.

>> No.870737

>>870728
The japanese SWR tournaments only allow one character, and no picking.

Allowing people to pick a character for each match has its own problems, like what are you going to do in a situation where both players refuse to play? "If you pick character A, I pick character D." "If you pick character D, I pick character B" "If you pick character B, I pick character C" "If you pick Character C, I pick character A"

I've followed a lot of tournaments and participated in some - a huge majority of them have not allowed any sort of character changes.

>> No.870754

The sheer about of tourneyfagging going on already tells me the 'don't worry about your skill level' line is horseshit. If you can't beat a high level player on #SWR, don't waste your time because you aren't going anywhere in the tournament.

The solution to that is fucking simple. Have both people declare their characters to the ref BEFORE the match. No counter-picking possible, bar knowing the preferences of your opponent and guessing what they'll use.
