>Nasu: Just like Urobuchi-san said, it's difficult to call the relationship between Shirou and Saber a relationship between a man and a woman. Saber has fought for a long time as the ruler of Britain, but then turned into a girl all of a sudden and fell in love with Shirou. It's pretty ridiculous when you think about it. But I really wanted to push it towards that sort of boy-meets-girl story. So as a last resort, I had Shirou continually say things to her like "But you're a girl," and "Girls aren't supposed to fight," in order to remind the users that "she is really a girl." It's like the author's actually the one trying to convince Saber that she's a girl... I feel like I could have written it a lot better now, but that was the best I could do at the time.

Nasu want to write female leads. He said it many times.

He was pretty much forced to make male leads because VN's with male leads sell better.

愛 tier: 桜。
恋 tier: セイバー、 凛。

Sakura confirmed as the heroine who Shirou loves. Gen still ships him with Rin. Saber and Shirou work better as a bromance.

>> No.8705659

So he's finally outing Saber as a transsexual man? That took them so long. Are they encouraged because of Beato?

>> No.8705669

That sounds like a horribly confused translation, or trolling.

I kind of get what he's saying though, but I didn't see in the game myself.

>> No.8705671

>>8705659

I don't think he means literally turned into a girl all of a sudden. Saber spent most of her life posing as a "male" King Arthur, now suddenly she was thrust into a relationship with a guy that treated her like a girl.

Unless the Grail just fucked up.

>> No.8705710

I like how jap writers are still able to consider how gender affects character interactions. I'm so sick of brainwashed feminists spouting shit like "gender doesn't matter to a well written character."

>> No.8705715

>>8705671

Trans man = female sex (vaggo), male gender (self identification as a king, a man).

Nasu confirms that Rin is from another gender aka female.

I read the original scan. He speaks of how much regrets writing the parts where he tries to "convince Saber" that s/he is a girl.

>> No.8705723

saber's personality was dull and her chemistry with shirou was non-existent, easily the worst written of the 3 leads

>> No.8705729

Why is Saber the most popular FSN?
- Worst route
- No personality
- No tits
- No interesting quirks (LOL SHE EAT A LOT XD)
- Shitty hairstyle

>> No.8705743

I find endearing that Nasu is so honest about his past mistakes as a writer.

>> No.8705745

>>8705710

On the other hand, I can't count the number of times someone has wanted to write in a female character but despairs because "I can't write for a GIRL!". Being able to see how a character's environment and upbringing effects then later in life is a valuable skill, but in the end your character is your character, and it is almost impossible to write someone's gender wrong, only poorly.

>> No.8705750

>>8705729

Tragic background, able to fight, the parts where Shirou wasn't forcing her to be uguu were well written and touching (without sexualizing them, I could picture them more as pals than a couple), gender issues (REALLY popular).

Her design is really good, get out.

people get chosen to become heroes from every universe or so it goes.

After all there is a male Arthur in the nasuverse as well.

>no personality

She has a lot of personality in FZ (prideful, jugdmental, honorable, compassionate, dutiful, stoic). She has more chemistry with Iri and Diarmuid than she ever had with Shirou. She even appears to openly flirt with them sometimes.

What happened? Did the Lancelot thing mindfucked her that much?

>> No.8705785

Now, I liked Rin more, and I think she's a better character overall, but fuck me if I don't consider Saber a ridiculously well executed instance of a moe character.

She's pretty much a textbook example, and Nasu should be acknowledged for that, as it's pretty much his finest contribution.

She fights the most in the entire novel.
She has a dress, and metal armour.

>> No.8705838

This interview once again makes me question why Saber is on most of all promotional anything Fate related.
The arguments in the interview are pretty accurate, yet they print and publish her everywhere.

And while Saber is admittedly not a bad character, it still almost gives the impression that she maintains her special position by simply having her special position and being on all promotional stuff.

I think part of the reason is that she's a strong female fighter that isn't relegated to a magic/support role, isn't tsundere, whatever.

She doesn't have the quirkiest personality, but I think she's a good character for what she is.

I like her better in Fate/Zero though. Girls in s00ts are so pro.

>> No.8705885

>>8705838

She mostly always tops the polls, the only time Ryogi beat her was when the KnK fever was high.

That's why she gets more promo material.

At least they have learned the large majority of their fanbase don't give a fuck about her romance with Shirou.

>> No.8705890

she's also blonde

>> No.8705907

>>8705886

This. I find her very tragic and flawed. I like her better in Zero because she acts more openly playful and is more prideful (even if this is a flaw sometimes, it makes her appealing).

Also she has way more chemistry with Iri and the Zero Servants (in general for relationship), so she meshes better.
