New fumo thread! If you have a fumo, feel free to post in here as well!
Previous thread >>8663669

It was partly cloudy and the sun was peeking out today, so Sakuya and I went on a short road trip to the local glacier! Buckle up for safety, Sakuya.

I apologize for the poor quality of the pictures, I have a really cheap camera.

All of the pictures today are from the glacier. By the time we had reached it, the clouds had reestablished their dominance over the Alaskan sky and threatened the release of rain, so Sakuya and I did not do as much adventuring as we would have liked.

On the hike there, which was all sorts of snowy and slushy from weeks of alternating snow and rain, we found a glovebush in partial bloom. Glovebushes are a rare occurance in America but are important to the economy of some countries.

I should have taken pictures when we had eighteen inches of snow, that was fun.

When we reached the waterfall, we stopped and had some lunch. The store was out of Ramune, so we got Sasparilla instead. Then we just sat and watched the waterfall and the other people for a while before continuing on to take some more pictures.

>>8692881
Food can be expensive, but it depends on how far from the populated areas you get. Anchorage's prices are the closest to the lower 48. Juneau is more expensive, but not nearly as bad as the small villages which are only accessible by float planes for boats.

I think that this is a cool shot. It's just the stone statue on the left in the previous picture. The spray from the waterfall has wetted the stone, but Sakuya used her time abilities to stay dry.

>>8692899
The money paid to Alaskan residents comes from the Alaska Permanent Fund, which is a somewhat-government managed (it's a semi-independent corporation) investment doohickey things. Basically, the oil companies are required to pay into it from their profits, and that money is invested, and the profit from the fund is re-invested as well as divvied out to Alaskan residents every year. It tends to be a bit over a thousand dollars.

Sometimes, Sakuya just likes to sit down and stare at nature for a while. It's part of why we go sightseeing like this.

I actually wanted to go to the sandy beach as well today, but the tide was in so I could not go where I wanted to go. The sandy beach is not natural, it was made from the waste sand of a mining operation. Maybe next weekend I'll be headed out there.

Aaand, unfortunately, that is it for today. You can not see it in this picture, but I noticed the heaviness of the clouds and started to head back. I was still a mile from my vehicle when I got caught in the rain. There were two other places I wanted to visit today, but one of them was also raining and as I said before, the tide was too far in for me to do what I wanted on the beach.

I hope that this miniature adventure was appreciated!
