Stupid things like pictures of previous Earth supercontinents, photos of weather like hurricanes, and photos of skeletons make me nervous and uncomfortable. Like, I can't look at them without needing people in the room with me. Is this autistic or mental behavior I can use to apply for autism money?

Skeletons are real though. And their never ending grin just frightens me, even to this day. I saw some video of kid sing alongs as a kid, and there were dancing skeletons and I had to turn off the TV. I still get very uncomfortable when I see one.

Wow, somebody else who finds pictures of hurricanes terrifying? I thought I was the only one. Don't get me wrong, they're plenty scary in real life too, but satellite imagery of them really does a number on me. There is something very anthropomorphic about the eye and arms. It's like an embodiment of madness.

My favorite kind of mental weirdness:

People who get visibly upset and very uncomfortable when seeing a character (tv, anime, etc) do something really embarrassing.

I have a friend who has to leave the room when this happens. Then he comes back and he is all defensive and angry "why are we even watching this? It's stupid".

>> No.8671429

>>8671423
I've unintentionally dropped so many shows because of that.

>> No.8671459

>>8671429

It is a very common problem and I don't understand it. Are these people really prone to projecting themselves into the character? Are they imagining they are in the same situation?

I do this too.
When I see characters doing embarassing shit, I have to "take a break" from the show, be it 30 seconds or 3 months.

I can't watch TV or anime without constantly being reminded of stupid and embarrassing shit I did when I was younger. I don't leave the room or anything, but I usually end up pausing and thinking for 5 minutes until I snap out of it. On average I probably do this about 3 times per episode.

It's called empathy. You see somebody in a bad situation, even if it isn't real, you share their pain.

>> No.8671496

>>8671459
That's normal. Fiction works by relying on the human's psychological ability to put yourself in someone else's shoes subconsciously, even if it's a fictional character.

There's something we say in spanish called "vergüenza ajena" when someone does something ebarrassing and you feel embarrassed yourself just by watching him. It's natural.

Empathy helps you understand a character, but you are not meant to leave the room because it is so overwhelming.

This topic comes up on virtually every social anxiety forum. "Have you ever tried watching a Ben Stiller movie and you had to hide behind the couch or leave the room when he embarrassed himself?" and everyone replies "yes" or "oh my god are you me?"

>> No.8671554

Speaking of empathy, is anyone else here unable to yawn when they see other people yawn, but always have to yawn after seeing a cat or animated character yawn?

>> No.8671555

>>8671540
Character is embarrassed, you are embarrassed emphatically. Embarrassed people tend to want to leave the room they are in. Where is the complexity?

People react differently, some people are more sensitive to this than others; I'm guessing shy people would naturally feel worse about it than some apathetic dude. But it's normal, I don't think it's a "problem" or an "illness" or whatever.

Sorry, you won't get autism money out of this.

I do at the minute, but Britain's benefit system is shitting all over itself right now so I might only be able to continue leeching it for a few more months, or at the very least the amount I'm receiving might be cut in half. I hear they might be abolishing the lower rate of DLA which is what I'm receiving, and that it's very difficult to get anything besides the lower rate for "mental illness" unless you're full-blown schizophrenic.

There has to be life of some sort on jupiter. The planet is just too fucking big to not have any. There could be life forms that have adapted to the air and have hole colonies and cities suspended in the air.

I hate the thought that we are alone in this universe ;_;
