I like to think the residents of Gensokyo view fairies like most people view squirrels. Some find them cute, others uninteresting, some even get annoyed with their getting into things and making a mess. However they help trees grow and are just a part of nature you gotta accept.

This makes me pretty sad. The 3 fairy series have been the thing I enjoyed the most about touhou for the last few years now.

I hope that they're either just screwing around with us (ie adding another fairy to the cast and renaming the whole series) or that they atleast start a similar series that focuses on these daily life events in Gensokyo.

There is no way they won't show up anymore. This has been the longest official touhou series and ZUN even dedicated a whole game to them. They might not be too popular but ZUN certainly seems to like them a lot.
