Excuse me, it's "bichromatic". We don't refer to cats as "black" or "white", thank you.

You can literally type "how do i learn japanese" into Google.

People who make these threads don't want to learn Japanese, or they'd be doing it already. At least for now, they want to ASK how to learn Japanese.

Why would you learn Japanese? I'd rather know Spanish instead.
That being said, any /jp/ anons here studying Spanish?

I did Spanish for my GCSEs and I cannot remember any of it. In fact, I know less Spanish than when I started.
Spanish is a very boring and forgettable language. Unless you're going somewhere where Spanish is the official language and nobody speaks English, there's no real point to learning it.

Oh come on, the guy has a point. Lurk here for a week and you'll find one of these threads. Of course the irony is that if everyone lurked for that long then nobody would make these threads therefore everyone would. Or something crazy. Maybe that's what happens now, who knows.

Start by realizing that learning a language takes years. A lot of people in the chans look at the many "how to learn japanese" copypastas that are floating around, download the ebooks, the dictionaries, the flashcard apps and watch online tutorials and end up giving up less than 24 hours later because they couldn't memorize al the hiragana in one afternoon and feel disappointed with themselves, just like the people who go to the gym for one week and then cancel their membership because they didn't see results. This takes time. A LOT of time.

My advice: just give up and pay for a course. They're not THAT expensive. Your local college should offer them. One year from now, you should be able to read some basic things. Just call them up and talk to them.

In case you're too late to sign up for this next semester, you could start memorizing hiragana by yourself while you wait. use realkana.com, hit "uncheck all" then check the first column. It's just five characters. Try to remember them and click practice, keep in mind you can hover over the character with your mouse if you don't know the answer. Once you have the first column done move on to the second one and so on.

Since the United States is being overrun by Latinos, it's a good language to know.
I'm already learning Japanese at this moment, but honestly I can't imagine it being useful in most cases here in the US.

I agree with you for the most part, but
> My advice: just give up and pay for a course.
No. There's nothing a course can do that self-study cannot. Perhaps it's overall better for a "normal" person because they get to be social as well as learn things, but that is more of a bad thing for your average 4channer.

It's quite like compulsory schooling. You could sit in your room and learn all of 12-18 physics in a year or less. However it's taught to you slowly over the course of many years because you're supposed to learn things other than physics, like how to deal with people and respect a school-like environment. Even when you're on a break or whatever, you're learning life skills. As an adult you don't really gain from any of this, because you've already learned it.
