How about a Liarsoft thread? That's nonspecific enough to warrant its own topic, right?

>> No.8572036

There are like, 3 translated.
If you want to talk about untranslated, I'm up though.

>> No.8572045

Is Shikkoku no Sharnoth good? It sounds like my sort of thing.

Both translated and untranslated are fine, I'd think.

I've, uh, only actually played Inganock, but I hear it's pretty good. You get to play as Agatha Christie!

Pic related.

I should go play Inganock, thanks for reminding me OP.

I really liked Sharnoth, has a shitton famous people in a steampunk London.
The Fullvoice version adds a lot, same with Inganock.

I'm waiting for news on Colorless Ulthar. I guess I like Seikyou side more than Kadath side but as long as they don't pull another Valusia I should like it.

Seikyou was... the "real world", right?

I like it so far. The minigame is stupid so I just downloaded a save that lets me skip it.

Same deal with inganock though where they repeat shit all the time. Gets a bit tiring.

I know the writer is going for a fairy story type feel, but I think she is missing out on being able to tell a better story by keeping to this static every chapter has its own monster, lets repeat lines, oh he used the same super move.

That being said I think the beautiful series goal is to create a really good atmosphere so it accomplished that.

Just a shame because I think they could have been much better.

>> No.8572106

>>8572099

The repetition of the clock bits were fine in Inganock. The battle scenes... not so much.

>> No.8572099

It's fine. VN threads have always been /jp/ related.
Just don't expect VN threads posted with ill intent from frustrated /v/ users or other shitposters to be received well.

Also, don't expect any discussion not ridden with shit until at least a month or something after this incident.
Also, I love liar soft. Though the Beautiful series, while although great, does have pretty glaring repetition flaws. The repetition sort of has a nice feel to it initially, artisticly speaking or whatnot. Repetition can be a style and not just odd behaviour, if done with finesse. I would argue the repetition eventually became too much, and with the repetition itself becoming too similar even, with too few variations.
Otherwise great.

I like the idea of Reddit because it reminds me of Usenet. Anyone can create a board, there's a focus on netiquette (or redditiquette or whatever), etc.
However in practice it's completely different and lacking in schizophrenic trolls who crosspost everywhere. Plus registration is always annoying. So I just post on Usenet instead, and accept that I'll never get a non-spam reply to any of my postings.

Same, from the sona nyl's excerpts on 'yeah, these are about ulthar', and I agree with you about Seikyo, the way they turn normal cities into fantastic lands is great.
Valusia still had some good chapters though, just not the important ones, I especially liked Hild's chapter, loved the narration, you could actually feel her love and pain.

Inganock is a wonderful game until it completely crash and burn.
My favorite liarsoft game is Forest, since it doesn't feel like style over substance. I mean, it's all style!

I never really felt that happen. I mean, this guy was great.

>>8572106 The repetition of the clock bits were fine in Inganock. The battle scenes... not so much.
I thought that the repetition during the "battle scenes" were the best thing. It reminded me of old monster-of-the-week shows.
I found it more refreshing than having a normal battle scene.

I like my fight scenes, to, uh, be exciting?

Sakurai was probably impressed by Utena's stairs bits or something. At least by Sona-nyl she learned that she can have repetition and symbolic fights without copypasting the same exact scene ten times over!

>> No.8572163

>>8572147
As a stylistic choice the repetitive battle scenes were not bad at all, mainly because they were short and to the point. I think I prefer them to the sort of mid-battle power-level discussion shounen fights that many people seem to want.

Yeah, after watching it I noticed that Inganock was kind of similar. It really made me want an anime but that's never going to happen.

>>8572163

I only wish Sakurai hadn't just copy and pasted, that's all. It's lazy, rather than stylistic.

My problem is that every chapter didn't need to have a monster to fight and have it be focused with that as the end.

I mean I understand the stylistic reasons for why it was written that way, but I'd rather have learned more about the world and the characters than just another generic fight.

So my problem isn't that the fights weren't written by Nasu, but that they were a focus for every chapter.

>> No.8572208

I'm playing through Inganock right now, and I'm already annoyed at the fight scene repetition by chapter 5. What's the point in even having fight scenes if it's 100% certain that the main character is just going to effortlessly kill the enemy in one move? It's painfully clear that the author was going for 'repetition as artistic' or something, but it comes off as the opposite of interesting.

The atmosphere is rather cool though. Same with the setting.

It's supposed to be all monster-of-the-week because Sakurai presumably grew up on magical girl anime.

If you haven't, you should watch Utena. It's a clear inspiration.

>> No.8572217

>>8572188
Well more than the fights themselves it was about the conflict between the main characters and various versions of the game's theme. They had plenty of sense in that they meant the main character's will is/becomes stronger than the obstacle he/she's facing.

>> No.8572222

Took me almost 6 months to finish Inganock, about to drop Forest (I'm at chapter five, to me it looks like they're playing Jumanji but I have no idea)

I tried, I really tried hard to like it but I am not enjoying this one bit.
I guess I'll stay away from Sharnoth.

No, I got that. I don't think it made for as strong a story as it could have been.

>>8572217
That was the intention, but it didn't turn out the way she intended.

Also in Sharnoth she just runs for that whole thing so that idea of will and all that isn't as clear.

>> No.8572251

I actually enjoyed the repetition in Inganock. Ever though you knew he'd win you got excited.

Kind of like watching Power Rangers as a kid.

>>8572213 If you haven't, you should watch Utena. It's a clear inspiration.
I never thought about the Utena connection. It totally makes sense!

I wish Ignanock was as good as Utena. Well at least it's probably better than that Utena game I have never played.

>It's lazy, rather than stylistic.
That's not true. That itself is a style which I personally like. Even though it might become annoying after a while, so there's a correct way to do it.
