Angel Beats is a prime example of everything what's wrong with this kind of anime and a lot of VN.
It doesn't matter that your pacing sucks, that your story doesn't make a lick of sense, that your characterization is shitty - as long as you include some stock drama and tug at the heartstrings in a ridiculously manufactured and unoriginal way, people will still eat this shit up.
I have similar problems with Madoka, but Madoka at least had more entertainment value and originality.
