While artists sure appreciate a few kind comments for a little fun, it's not very practical to start drawing time and effort consuming illustrations for random people on image boards. Normally there should be some other motive behind it, or the artists get almost certainly bored with it.

I frequent the /a/ drawfag thread very often. The really only acceptable drawfags tends to really be from /jp/ themselves. Like Sai or Mags. The threads are completely horribly in terms of art or drawing in general because they always have a 1,000:2, Request/Delivery ratio. It would be nice if the threads could have more OC and shit, but a lot of people on /a/ go full hardcore shit mode whenever somebody posts something that isn't related to a request. It's ridiculous, really. The only good thing as of late are the waifu drawthreads, but even in comparison to the drawfag general that thread is quickly deteriorating down the shit hole as well. It's almost impossible to see any drawing out of anyone on /a/ anymore. At least, outside of the waifu drawings.

Of course oekaki is pretty much dead and /ic/ has better artwork overall, but it blows my mind to see that people can create great images first time with a relatively simple Java applet. Watching the animations of people draw is amazing. They're not pasting it into Photoshop then fixing things up, they're just sitting there drawing and doing it awesomely.
