Not the first time it happened. A Midsummer Night's Dream has some untranslatable jokes that only make sense in english, like Bottom Nick. I have tried different spanish translations and most just say "Cannot be translated".

I'll take the high road and avoid cluttering up the screen/page with TL notes. Just localize the joke and explain why you did so in the liner notes. Especially if it's a wordplay joke. The only people who would enjoy the joke would be those that are fluent in Japanese (I.E. those who aren't relying on translations), and everyone else, like any other human being, doesn't find a joke funny if it has to be explained to them.
