Mami and Ran meeting would actually be interesting. I think in many ways they are very similar, except Ran at some point in her life started serving Yukari and became a "domesticated" Youkai.

I think, those choices made in life has it's effects, so maybe they can actually relate to one other quite well. So even if they dislike each other, they might have a mutual respect.

Would depend entirely on where, when, how and why the challenge took place.

While Ran is far higher on the youkai food chain, having powers and an according sphere of comprehension that defies common sense, it does not mean that she's omnipotent, omniscient, or wins by default at everything. Mamizou could very well deceive Ran or carry out a practical trick of which Ran is unaware.
Although tanuki are supposedly the more skilled among shapeshifters, even compared to kitsune, a bit unsure in this case. It's too poorly defined where exactly Ran's expertise in shapeshifting lies.

/poosh/ really isn't that bad for discussion for Touhou. I don't get why the hell Rozen Maiden's on it but a lot of the people are both kind and intelligent. I really enjoy the creative writing and art threads on there. There's also Touhou-Project but I haven't been there for a while... But I remember an awesome Tokiko choose your own adventure thread on there. That was quite fun.

It's a touhou imageboard that gasp, actually posts touhou images, and is solidly grounded on fanmade games rather than the series itself. While I don't particularly like most of the userbase and the massive amount of spoonfeeding they do, it's nowhere near as terrible as people here make it out to be. The spoonfeeding and focus on fanmade games are probably why people go there, but they're just one part of the fandom.

Yes, there's a certain sense of entitlement there that I don't agree with, but the spoonfeeding is basically simple translations, sources and links to things, question-answering and game hand-holding.
