I picked this up when it was released back in November, and it just arrived today after a full two months of shipping time, using SAL to east coast US. I've used SAL for all my figures so far, but this was the first one that came with packing tape that said it was resealed by the USPS. Box came in and was extremely beat up, and when I opened it up, the figure itself is fine but the box itself was pretty much destroyed, one of the sides was completely ripped off.

Not really too cut up over it since the figure is alright, but is there any point in contacting the post office about it? Would they do anything about the damages for regular SAL?

Received Yozora Nendoroid this week. My first Nendo and it's cute as fuck. I think I spent more than one hour trying to change everything.
And Sena is on preorder for March.

Also preorder Samus figma at the speed of light. It's like a child dream becoming true.

Finally, thinking about getting Sena Beach Queen. I'm not really a fan of swimsuits but that pose is so in-character it's hilarious. Whereas Kobato and Yozora just seem kinda bland.

This probably sounds stupid but my first impression when I first set her up was that her head was small. I'm not sure if it's the pose, weird proportions, or if my image of Al being just a bit bigger than a loli was way off. This is comparing a 1/7th fig to a 1/8th, but check out the size of her thighs compared to Griffon's Youmu, not that there's anything wrong with it.

That's the last suit from Prime 3. It has a Phazon container on the chest, those things on the shoulders are added late in the game. And I don't think they look that good.
The one thing I like about the design is all the gray parts, and at the end you're all shiny from the phazon.

Once SAL lands in the destination country and gets through whatever customs procedures it might get caught up in, it's treated exactly the same as a regular ground parcel. For me (London, UK), if they it doesn't fit through the letter box and no-one answers the door, they'll leave a "you were out" note and you can arrange re-delivery/go pick it up from the depot yourself..

They all require painting or they'll look like plastic shit. Just like any other model.

Sometimes if they're semi-painted, meaning they use a bunch of different colored pieces on sprues and shit you can get away with a flat top coat and some transfer decals but 9/10 the painted version is going to look nicer if you know what you're doing.

Oh, yeah, it's looking small because the cat is standing with his head very... up. He's only a couple months old, he's far from being a big cat, and considerably smaller than the average cat size - so it's giving the wrong impression.
The box's size is... big enough. Lots of space for the fig, a bit bigger than two of my average-sized hands.

>>8504499
Indeed it was! I'm no expert with figures, but it's really nice. It is transparent with something that looks like a small metal/aluminum ball inside, so it creates the impression of something solid at the same time that it's very reflexive and... well, transparent.

Anyway, I was thinking of placing her besides my monitor, over the subwoofer, but she's shaking a lot as I type. I doubt that's good for her integrity on the long run, so I'll have to figure out another place.

I'm expecting to receive some old 1/8 figs some time next week as my first step into figdom.

I live in a small apartment with a tiny window, and its about 10 km from the seashore. The air in my room is humid and salty, should I take any extra precaution in maintaining my PVCs?

I'm paranoid that they might start melting for some reason.

Pic related, part of what I ordered. I didn't even particularly enjoy the anime, I don't know why I bought a Hyakka Ryouran fig.

>> No.8509517

>>8509495

>I'm paranoid that they might start melting for some reason.

Yeah one of the biggest reasons why I never buy figs second-hand is that most people don't know how to maintain them. I can't count how many times I've gotten half-melted PVCs off of eBay eventhough the seller lists them as "like-new." I would suggest you store them inside a humidor, and only put it up on display when entertaining guests.

Just dust them every once in a while. They're fucking PVC. They're made to last forever.

Keep them in a cool and dry place, and never put them in sunlight. Keep them dusted, and every month or so put them in the freezer, yes the freezer, for a couple of minutes to "settle" the PVC. This is to avoid oils in the PVC from seeping out, which is a problem with older figs. And never ever let water touch the fig or clean it with water, this will rub off the water-based paint, use a glasses cloth and canned air to clean and dust them.

>> No.8509711

So... we have the "just leave your PVC figs alone" and the "PVC figs requires monthly maintenance" camps. I have never heard of putting PVC in the freezer for maintenance before. Do figs really melt over time, or are you talking like 40+ years?

>> No.8510359

>>8510110
They're just trolls the ones saying that pvc requires maintenance and all that shit. The reason they are made out of pvc is that pvc is a cheap yet highly durable material which as well is easy to mold.

I do agree however with using compressed air to clean a figure but thats just because a cleaning cloth never really gets all the dust off. The only time you may possibly run into problems is if you constantly keep your figures in 24/7 direct sunlight at 40C+. If pvc had issues involving melting, do you think they'd really be using it for almost all the plumbing in houses as well as many other things such as gloves, which mind you are a lot thinner than any figure would be? If pvc had problems with temperature we'd have gloves melting on people's hands and houses flooding from melted pipes.

>> No.8511051

Major damage risks are because of the paint, not because it's PVC.
As people said, keep them away from extreme heat, sunlight, water and dust them once in a while.
