At the very least, Arakune's most entertaining rendition was his first one. I don't know about the other characters, but I disliked that they made his bugs large blobs, slowed them down so much, and made it so curse mode was more or less a one-time thing.

I didn't mind him being nerfed, but they totally altered the character in style, pacing, everything. They even decimated his voice set.

I trust /jp/ is above jumping on me with the "you only don't like it because you're not overpowered anymore" argument. He was simply a far more active character in his first rendition; I'm not going to deny he was grossly imbalanced relative to the rest of the cast.

I have no complaint with your opinions. In fact, I agree that Arakune was objectively a better character post-CT, in terms of balance. However, as patching is a normal thing and has been around for a long time, I can't really say much, but I disagree with the philosophy that designers take which allows them to change games however they please with little regard for whether they're depriving people of the game and character they paid money for(in gameplay, not power). Yes, I know I need to just deal with it, but I just wanted to express this.

I personally enjoyed his combos and general curse mode more in CT. Bugs were smaller but had less cooldown, faster but had less hitstun, and curse mode wasn't a one-time thing, as it usually was if you were up against good competition of a decent character, since you usually died if you didn't kill them with it or get a quick recurse. Recursing wasn't too hard, but that's irrelevant as what I liked about it in CT is that it was, in general, many times more dynamic. You could go in and out of curse mode very quickly/often in the flow of a match and that was interesting.

In any case, that's why I liked CT Arakune. I realize it's a fruitless attempt to complain about the patching system as it exists in modern days as it's obviously not going anywhere, but I am a little tired of games radically changing every SBO season. I think Tekken is the only major fighter that doesn't change literally every year now.

What do people think about BlazBlue not being on EVO this year, anyways? I suppose they'll just do it behind the scenes or something, but that's not the same.

It looks solid, and I think it will be a hit with the "anime fighter" crowd. Also, as you said, its American made which is kind of a rarity for fighting games and it probably won't have the same version update problems Blazblue has. SRK has been pushing it fairly hard too, so it's well known by the SF community as well.

i get this impression from every community but the "anime fighter" community.

every video i've ever watched has led me to believe that the BB and GG communities are almost solely comprised of standard-issue nerds(not saying this is a negative thing), not people who try to act "black" like you've described. even the black people don't seem to act "black."

but this is just what i've seen looking on the boards and videos, not personal experience. i do have experience playing with real people and playing games outside of my hometown/state, and from what i've experienced, people online are more unpleasant to play with. 90% of them can't take a loss, and if they happen to win once they leave rudely.

I've played Bang since CT as well... and balance (or lack thereof) aside, the game was pretty badly designed, especially due to its Burst and Guard Libra mechanics. CS fixed a lot of it, but the characters all became too autopilot, which was somewhat remedied in CS2, now in EX there's apparently no dumb dominating character (but some characters got hit with the Sean hammer). So BB is slowly becoming a better fighting game, and while I did enjoy CT, I can say it was a very bad game.

Oh boy. During CT and early on CS I played Hakumen, and that was both rage inducing and exhilarating at the same time. I used to have multiple replays from online where I won by a hair thanks to yukikaze distortion super counter off stupid shit like a rachel lightning rod or her little pumpkin, and from wakeup distortions and D spam from Nu.

They looked like I had a sixth sense, but it was mostly throwing out a wild gamble and getting lucky with counters half the time. During early CS hakumen became a monster and I managed to hit 230ish PSR easy, placing myself high on the list. What you could make combos for him felt very limited though, and I did not and still do not like that. I dropped him for valkenhayn the second I saw those wolf cannons and his fullscreen coverage by dash exploit (j.D>66>D or IAD>D>C>D, and many others)

Feels nice to be actually in control of everything on the screen, or so it feels like. He has several combo pathways and it looks even better for him in EX. Sadly it looks like they decided hakumen should be more a zoner or something rather than a damage juggernaut like he was in CT.

I gotta agree with you that the game gets better every time overall too. Even the shitty flat looking art from the first game was replaced.

They should focus more on giving him more variety, but I assume Arcsys wants his drive combos to fulfil that role however tremendously risky they might be. No, most of the characters are like that.

With Arakune, you learn to abuse curse. With Jin, you learn to abuse huge DP hitboxes. With Taokaka you learn to abuse flying around fishing for counter hits in neutral. With Carl you learn to abuse unblockable resets with the doll. with Litchi you learn to abuse daisharin oki, etc...

You also learn the mechanics of the game too if you're good, but that's also true of Tager players. There's just a lot of bad Tagers because he's easy to learn, and kills other bad players with ease.

There's nothing inherently bad with netplay. The best American MBAC player netplayed more than anyone else. When MBAA was at evo, Kusanagi who had ZERO MBAA experience against other players (he was grinding boss rush for god's sake) beat Garu in teams and placed relatively high in singles (I think he made it to semis? or losers finals? I don't remember anymore).

People like to bash netplay for no reason, but it's almost as good as playing in the arcade if the netplay is decent.

I don't think Americans push themselves hard enough. I find people making excuses/giving up on themselves on Dustloop all the time. They also seem to have an attitude of settling for shitty combos/techniques because they're afraid to drop the harder ones, even though the Japanese obviously regularly do them on footage. Perhaps things have changed since I last paid attention but that's how I remember it.

Aside from that, I don't really intend to "look down" on them as it's not like I can prove myself better. It's pretty tough to compete with Japan's pop. density, arcade system, and infrastructure. I think we've closed in on them a bit in Street Fighter, it would be nice to see it in GG/BB.
