I used to make games in Inform. It's a really cool language actually, not hard to get to grips with. I might try again some day when I'm feeling especially nerdy. While the language is easy-ish(at least for basic things) thinking up puzzles that are worth a fuck and integrating it with a storyline is really hard. You don't want to make Arise: The Text Adventure.

One of the best text adventures I ever played was one called "Curses". It was really atmospheric. Never finished it though.

It's supposed to be 2hr long choose your adventure game about societal collapse. The protagonist has to protect his sister and manage stockpiles of food & ammo. Depending on dialog choices, the girl loses or gains hope, and this leads to different endings.
