You seem to have the misconception that all VNs made in Japan are good in comparison. They aren't. You only know the big names, but for every glorious game there are like a thousand that are forgettable fap fodder, if it even has decent CG.

Well mostly because they're either
A) Trying to imitate Japan far too much instead of becoming their own identity.
or
B) Often trying to shove some message they think is meaningful and deep down your throat the entire time you're reading.

Oftentimes OELVNs try to be something they're not, never seeming content to... well, be a goddamn visual novel.
It's a shame, really, but these things will all be worked out with time.
