It is in fact the best VN to come out to date.

Why is there that sly guy face on the picture when the text clearly says "-teary bloated guy" and he shouts DAAAAAAAAAAAMN like that screaming egghead guy?

"I would definitely have stopped by now. I’ve been clicking through conversations, taking in as much as flashes before my eyes and still entirely keeping up with the paper-thin plot. Good grief, the meticulous detail that goes into every tedious detail is agonising. Why would I ever care about Hisao’s morning running routine for more than a sentence, let alone literally half an hour of conversations, looping endlessly around the same topics, hurting my will to live? Clicking and clicking and clicking, nothing happening, nothing of any meaning occurring, and then I see the horrendous words, “ACT 2″. What? How many acts? Even if there are only two, this means I’m only halfway through this! Oh please no."

People do LPs of visual novels? What the fuck is the point? I mean I know a few goons like slowbeef did adventure games but those aren't purely text. This is like riffing someone reading a book or something.

This line caught my eye:

>I refuse to say “it’s not a game”, because it is. It’s just one where you don’t get to do anything meaningful

I think this warrants some discussion. Are visual novels games, or are they something separate? I mean some of them have mini-games and lots of choices, but kinetic novels are basically just slideshows.
Of course you interact by clicking things, but does that make it a game? I remember those cheesy "multimedia CDs" you'd get in the 90s and they'd let you click things but I wouldn't say they were games...

Visual novels are video games.

Hirameki got their VNs rated by ESRB, similarly, all console VNs get rated by their country's respective board.

However, Steam has declined every submission of VNs as being non-games.

Conclusion: VNs are only games when they're on game consoles.

Pfft.

Umineko style VNs (without any kind of interactivity at all) certainly aren't games.

Japanese-style adventure game -> Clannad

Western-style adventure game -> Monkey Island

Big difference as HELL, so we call the Japanese ones visual novels just to make that distinction. The whole "novel" part in the name tends to give people the wrong expectations about these games though (like in that KS article). But it can't be helped. Visual novel sounds sorta cool anyways.

/v/ here, why can't you faggots just take the VNs? I'm sick of weeaboos insisting their waifu simulators are video games and then going on to post about how they really want to fuck schoolgirls.

Same with Phoenix Wright.
Just take a visual novel, and add a system that punishes you for not paying attention to the story. You don't even need branching!
