Well first off, let me start by saying that Mountain of Faith is the best Touhou game.

Now, please explain in greater detail what "doesn't feel right" about the newer games. I'll admit they have a different "feel" gameplay-wise (feels smoother and less clunky imo), but the Touhou charm is still there and better than ever.

I'm a newfag to touhou, so please don't consider my opinion of any merit or worth, but it seems less fluid to me, actually. though there are more bullets and what not, the pace just feels awkward. Of course, if you all, being more knowledgeable in such things, insist these games are worth playing, then I'll quit my bitching and give em another try.

I'll be honest with you. I'm relatively new to Touhou, I've been playing the games for about a year now. I started with 6-8 and got pretty used to them. Then when I tried 10-12, I felt pretty much the same as you. It just felt a little off. Also, I didn't like the bomb system in 10 and 11. So I just kinda didn't play them and went back to 6-8.

But then I gave the newer games another shot. I played Mountain of Faith for an entire day straight. After a while of playing, I almost stopped caring about the bullets and just appreciated the scenery, music etc. Mountain of Faith is an extremely beautiful game, which is why it's my favorite now. And after a while of playing, I got used to the new physics. I realized that this is how bullet hell games are SUPPOSED to feel, but I was used to the slight clunkiness of the 6-8 games. Anyway, I got used to it and now I can switch to any game, even the PC-98 ones with no problems because I'm used to the slight difference in each game.

tl;dr just keep playing and you'll get used to it

Yes, in fact, it completely broke MoF, and made it way too easy.

When you can bomb every single spellcard in the game and still get a 1cc, you know something is wrong with the game.

Its one of those situations where you say, "Why fix that isn't broken".
6-8 were the best in my opinion, 2-5 were fine but slow as fuck (go figure), 12.8 had a interesting feature to it and a different (better) artist for the characters and the rest I just didn't care for and felt the same besides the fighting games which I had a good time playing.

well, its sometime that "EMBODIMENT OF SCARLET DEVIL" feel a little, hmmmmmmmm, i think slow.
but, is a fun game. and, good musics.

It seem, like 6-8 is "classic" games for many peoples. I am agree. Also, in these three its my opinions that "IMPERISHABLE NIGHT" is best one.

Anyway, best touhou game for me is "MOUNTAIN OF FAITH" and "UNDEFINED FANTASTIC OBJECT" because, first one is very pretty and many fun gameplays. Second, is I like UFOs. Maybe, if you are playing this game for long enough time then you are visiting alien desu ka.

MoF and SA introduced some great characters. UFO and TD not so much.

MoF did have a ridiculously broken bomb system but everything else about it felt perfect to me. As for the other games, FW has to be one of my favorites, with TD having Youmu, which is my favorite shot type ever. But I suppose that's what happens when you start with UFO. SA is probably one of my least favorite games in the series though.

It's true. The UFO cast are rarely seen on their own except as sidekicks to Byakuren, and the TD characters are just not... very interesting.

Clearly the problem is that none of the post-SA characters fill any sexual fetish niches.Except Byakuren. And she's just one.

Well, there was MarisaA which could store up to 8.00 power. Not sure if she was any good or not though.

I only played through with ReimuA on hard mode and then I was done with the game. Same goes for MoF, I just 1cc'd it and didn't bother to play it anymore. The power being bombs just felt wrong to me.

If you ask me the main problem with the UFO cast never "appearing" in fanworks is more about how the english speaking community doesn't bother to translate nearly as many fanworks featuring any characters from newer games as they do with old.

Nothing but EoSD cast all day errday on gensokyo.org. (yes i somewhat mad, so many not-so-good doujins get wasted time on)

And I'm not saying there are as many works with UFO characters as there are from EoSD or whatever, because there aren't, just that the "filtering" makes it even more obvious.

Touhou fans have an awful lot of strange fetishes, but I doubt there are too many necrophiliacs who like this stuff. Some, but... probably not enough to have a whole lot of community content created about it. Yoshika seems like the new China for gag humour.

Well, I do, so I can tell there's a lot of good-looking UFO-cast centered doujinshi that never get scanned or translated.

There seems to be a good bunch of nice TD doujinshi for C81 as well, but we might need to wait for those longer.
