Unless you're doing wide compositions, it's only as beneficial as using a full-frame, which I feel is largely wasted on dolls which are usually closeups or tight telephoto shots. I have a 5D but use it way less on dolls than my 20D. Even so, there are ultrawide lenses for sub-frames for the smaller percentage of wide shots that bloggers like Azure occasionally does

Yeah that's me. They said they'll get to it in 10 days. Subtract holidays and they're suppose to get around to me last Thursday/early this week.

This phone is quite suffering, but this thing isnt so bad when I blast the subject with so much light that my eyes hurt. If the phone didnt have that green hue at the center these would turn out a lot better. It's probably damaged lens coating.
The green was really bad for

12k JPY is around the normal retail price for neemos. It wont go much lower without spending quite a bit time sniping auctions, but then at that point you arent getting what you want.

Personally I consider dolls and figs collectibles. For dolls, limited dolls based on a licensed character are probably more appealing if you collect figs.

For normals, dolls and figs share somewhat the same category from their perspective. I generally explain to those who see my dolls that they are my models and the primary reason why I got into photography. Making these visually appealing yet inanimate dolls seem alive with still photos gives great joy to owning these.

Is building and/or obtaining a doll like this challenging? Is it quite complex to follow the whole raffle thing? What services do you guys use for purchasing things from Yahoo auctions?

The temptation to start following this stuff is far too great sometimes, but if I'm going to do it, I'll go all out with price not being an object. I imagine I'd have to get a better camera and start learning how to take non asstastic pictures too...

No raffle necessary if you're going the custom route. Volks and Obitsu parts are easily available. You're only limited by your skill.

Barring that, then Celga, Rinkya and ShoppingMallJapan are proxies to name a few. All are similar, it all depends on how much you want to get gouged with fees and overcalculating the yen against inflation.

Problem with Rinkya I've found is the limited search terms. I've found a number of things manually searching on yahoo actions, but then the Rinkya search returns no results for the exact same search term. It's pretty gay... It should be a wide open proxy search.

Please keep the criticism constructive. We may be ridiculous buyfags but it's obviously not how we measure each other. But yes, you caught me. I'm fishing for advice and thank you.

I metered for the blinds then came up one stop to try to get some glow ontop of the background blur. however the 50mm 1.4 even stopped down to 5.6 still feels lacking so I swapped out then took your advice on metering. Unfortunately the sun has come down some and my 20d only has center weight and not spot metering.

tl;dr, conditions different, changed lens, took advice, here's the result.

I've only ever seen one and it was a one off Super Dollfie by VOLKS for an American dolls party. A quick check of the Dollfie release databases shows no mass produced brown skin dolls have been released. The answer to that question is generally no.

I'm guessing a brown skinned doll just would not sell in Japan.

As far as I know, you cant use anything oilbased or acetone based, as the former eats away at resin, and the later melts it. You'll also need a sealant to keep the oil from your hands from rubbing off the paint + eating into the resin. I've heard good things about mr super flat, but any sort of water based/acrylic matte spray should work.

They're relatively the same way. Coat the head first with mister super clear or your coat of choice after washing it. And then use acrylic, chalk pastels, or watercolor pencil to do the face up, and then seal again when finished.

The only difference you'll find is that the different materials take to painting differently. I think it's easier to paint resin than vinyl. But other than that the basic procedure of actually painting the face is the same. Also you can use the inside of the headcap as a small practice space to test colors.

Yup! DDH-06. The chin shape is very similar to DD Nanoha. the eyes are just a bit smaller and the nose is closer to the mouth by a tad. I used the Animetic I-type blue/ruri (http://www.volksusa.com/eyeani00i02.html)) that I recently put in Nanoha and put the previously used darker blue set before that back in Nanoha.

Since the eyes and dress were reused I guess it wasn't obvious

Anyway assuming its not too big you can probably ask for SAL shipping which is cheaper and slower. No tracking on it though.

In my experience though SAL is fine unless you live in some underdeveloped country with poor postal service. Oh and if your item is super expensive you wouldn't want to use SAL.

There was an autoban on the entire dot info TLD for a while for some (no doubt retarded) reason. I got banned for trying to link to the Good Smile Company site in /toy/. I've seen people link GSC without any problems recently though, so it's probably fine again now.

Am I the only one with a morbid fear of these Kigurumi? They scare the ever-living shit out of me. Maybe it's the fact that this is crossing the barrier between 2D and 3D which should never be crossed, or maybe it's just because I've always been scared of dolls, but I hide these threads everytime because they're nightmare fuel to me.

>> No.8457325

It's basically silly putty type stuff that holds them in place.

>> No.8457347

>>8457307
If you buy a character dollfie, the eyes are hot glued in. They come out easily enough if you want to change them. If you just buy a head, then you have to attach the eyes yourself. I use putty for holding up posters. Volks sells eye putty, which is basically the same stuff.

>> No.8457617

>>8457307
Volks sells a flesh-colored material similar to poster-tack for DIYers. DIYers and people who change out the default eyes are known to use poster-tack since it's readily accessible. However if you don't use enough, the eyes can come loose especially if you handle the head roughly like putting the headcap on just after changing the eyes. This is less of a problem with the new soft headcaps. For a more semi-permanent solution just get a hotgluegun. they're cheap, and when you need to change the eyes leaving a little on the inside of the doll head helps position the new eyes.

poster-tak
pros: cheap, numerous alternatives, can reposition eyes for different expressions and poses
cons: can come loose

hotglue gun:
pros: semi-permanent
cons: semi-permanent

Mostly DDs here, I know, but I just ordered this, a Fairyland Feeple65 Siean, a couple weeks ago. She's my second BJD, after a Dream of Doll E-An. I do DDs as well, though. I have a Beato and am waiting on Saber/EXTRA.

My GF is also into dolls, so we have a grand total of four resins and six DDs currently, plus my GF's newest (Fairyland Chloe), which should be at the door any minute, the DD Saber duo, and Siean.

Excellent stuff, and you make a good point about meets, I'm pretty sure i'll be out of place at most doll get togethers. Til then, it's just DoA for me.

As for these threads, other BJDs are welcome unfortunately it's mostly Dollfie Dream that evoke reactions from the casuals. The grandfather of /jp/ doll threads Kordox has a Tiny blue-fairy and no Volks. I believe /toy/ occasionally has meta-threads with strung BJDs but haven't been there in a while.
