So tell me /jp/, how is actually Miko's opinion towards the regular youkai? I know that Mamizou set out to suppress the Taoists once they awoken, since Nue called her to Gensokyo, but I lack any canon knowledge about Miko's own position.

Does she hate youkai or not? And why?

Even if she doesn't hate them or actively try to hunt any youkai down, I can definitely see her looking down on youkai as a "pure" saint and as a human.

Meeting with someone from the Myouren Temple, I always imagined her with a "so now Buddhism relies on dirty youkai, eh" sort of attitude. Though going father than that would be sort of pushing it for her, I think.

Also, I'm sure Hijiri "youkai and gods are the same" Byakuren would have a few things to say about her arrogance.

Aya, thanks a lot for your opinion on this, and I'd have to agree pretty much. I never read anywhere she would deliberately hate them or anything, but I would have assume some sort of... hmm... dislike towards any type of youkai, since there was apparently people who did not like what she is doing, Buddhists aside.

But I'm glad hearing a second opinion on this, since I wanted to play her in an RP and this was pretty much the only thing which really threw me off. Thanks a lot!

Miko was probably the last character to grow on me from TD, but now I actually really like her. What probably nailed it was my thoughts about her as a prince or as a regent; the royal family in ancient Japan where more or less treated like saints or gods. This caused me to start imagining her more and more as someone who has a absolute confidence in herself and in her own judgement, and that being the only reality or truth she knows.

I don't think she's a bad person, or that she's necessarily ignorant, instead she seems thoughtful and maybe even compassionate. However, she's more eccentric and narcissistic than most even in Gensokyo.

So, if I RPd her myself, that would probably be something I'd have a lot in mind. Good luck, I guess.

And yes, in the times she lived, humans were still persecuting youkai, and that was the norm. The only thing that I can think of that might go against the idea that Miko followed the norm was that she, just like Byakuren, in her fear of death might have sympathized with or admired youkai. However, the idea that she considers herself above all else still sorta nullifies this line of thinking, especially considering the status youkai had at that time.
