Thanks for all the interest so far. We have a couple of illustrators who are interested in working with us, and I have an assistant editor who's been a treat to work with so far.

Need scans from light novel magazines, or untranslated light novels. I'm trying to decide on a proper format for the pages, so if anyone has these it would really help out.

Questions or ideas? Post here or shoot me an email.

Happy writing.

Is this the magazine requesting the cover image in the OC thread?

>> No.8282079

OP's obviously trying to make the magazine not be shit by not accepting a lot of stories. That kind of sucks for a lot of people who are just starting out, but whatever. Mine was rejected but at least he gave me some fair input. Curious as to what kind of stories they will be including in this, and illustrations.

Maybe you can work on a new submission in time? Not sure how bad or good it was, but getting some early pointers should allow you to improve it and make something interesting to read.

Hope I don't get rejected too, taking too long so I won't have time to restructure/rewrite.

It's like the opposite type of content you'd find in a light novel though right? Since they're aimed at young people.

>>8288346

Ehhh, sort of. A lot of "light novels" are on the more upbeat side but there are definitely some with darker themes (I think Boogiepop Phantom was kind of grim?). I'm actually pretty sure most LN mags don't focus on darker ones, so doing so is taking an interesting angle.

I don't get the impression that OP will turn down more upbeat stories as long as they're well-written and have a dark streak somewhere in them. He gave me some positive feedback even though my story wasn't super dark like I thought he wanted.

>> No.8288363

Somebody have already submitted art op?

>> No.8288366

How many stories have been accepted so far? Can you post one? Even a paragraph is fine.

I want to see what the editor's taste in stories are, and whether or not its likely that anyone, including me, will just make wasted effort for a curt "not what we're looking for, thanks" response at the end (if any)

If not, then I'll just wait for the first "issue," or whatever you're calling this. But I would think there are others hesitating because of this as well.

>> No.8288373

I don't see how that situation would be wasted effort. You'll still have a story that you've written. Being motivated to write something is never a bad thing.

Nevertheless I'll probably wait for the first issue too.

>> No.8288411

One simply said he was interested, another actually showed us a portfolio of stuff. He's pretty good.

>>8288366

Well, I won't lie. We've rejected a couple stories and I turned two people away who just wanted their outlines reviewed. Four other people claim to be "working on" stuff, the one somewhat legitimate guy (who talked to me in person) submitted a clip from a story about a piano stage haunted by a girl who killed herself on the stage way back when or something like that but it was a paper copy and I don't have a digital one. What little I read was okay though. I think it's a mystery.

Tl;dr, nothing's gone through yet. I could post a clip from the submissions and you'd understand WHY they didn't go through, but that's a bit mean. I will say that one writer got really angry about "not being accepted into even a 4chan e-zine" though.

Can you give the reasons at least? Was it the wrong genre? Was it grammar and spelling? Was it the story?

>>8288406
I'm too autistic and cynical for that "intrinsic merit" gambit, son. Plus, getting a vague "meh, not quite" response after hours of writing (it still takes hours to write steaming shit) would be too much like trying to get published in real life.

That there seems to be serious constructive criticism is encouraging. Though again, we haven't really seen any of it.

It fit the genre guidelines, but it was just bad writing. Grammatical and formatting issues everywhere, wrong punctuation, and I just had no idea what the story was about. To put it short: it was sloppy and unpolished. The time and setting jumped around constantly. I stopped 1/3 from the end because it was literally giving me a migraine. My assistant more or less said that same.

I tried to be helpful and point him toward a writing community where he could get some valid constructive criticism, but damn. It was just beyond salvaging. I don't think he was happy with the outcome either way.

No, but i think that an good novel with anime illustations shouldn't have automatically cute girls and otaku pandering cliches. I don't think op wants that his blog becomes a /jp/ only place. also "anime" is a loose genre. or you intend only Saten's gloryhole adventures and Milky Holmes?

A few questions I'ld like to ask:

What about names? Well, it can always be easily changed, but would you prefer western or weeaboo names?

Do you expect us to make a first chapter-like story or a full pilot version? 1000-5000 words is not that much for a full story...

Criticism: do you at least try to read the full story? From what you said, I can only assume you only read half the story and form a quick judgement. Do you pass on any points or just go "lol it's shit, go to this writing community"

I have a few ideas, but most of them will be abstract as hell and you won't understand it untill the conclusion wraps everything up. Will you consider such stories?

I'll come to tell you now, that was what I had in mind a week ago, and I even submitted a chapter to editor-kun. Long story short, if you're not very adept with writing, which I guess, would probably be equivalent to something like 100,000 words submitted edited, checked, passed and officially ok'd to someone who knows his shit, (and editor-kun seems to be this sort of someone), you're wasting your time. Needless to say, I've done a 180 and scraped up a new story, and using some of the comments he gave me, it's actually going quite well.

And I did say well, but not quickly. I'm on /jp/, after all, what do you expect? Sorry, editor-kun.
