I really enjoy Emotional Skyscraper. I think it's a tad overrated, though. Also, it holds the distinction of being one of the few Touhou songs in which I like the ZUN version more than any other cover version. That might just be because I haven't found one that really clicks, though, so I'd love for this thread to change my view.

About making your own Touhou arrangements, I've recently gotten really curious of making remixes, mash-ups and medleys of existing arrangements. I'm surprised no-one is doing this since there's so many different arrangements of the same melodies. I have a ton of ideas and a big music-library but no experience at all. I have no idea. Sorry... I'm no good with digital audio and stuffs. My friend takes care of that part for me. Seriously, you kids and your fancy blinking boxes...

But really, it's not gonna be that hard. There's loads of tuts available online, and if you spend a good time working on it you'll do fine. Just install an audio workstation and fiddle around with it. For doing the thing you wanna do, you can probably get away with just isolating stray sounds, matching the pitch, finding out how to make a good transition and such.

Of course, I'm just talking out of my ass on this, so don't take my words for it~

I listen to just about everything, really. But the thing is, the original has this feeling of intensity and building, pardon the pun, emotions and danger, but at the same time, there's this reassuring feeling of calmness and peace, like it's saying Byakuren, despite however powerful she is, won't kill you for real. I think it's also partly because of the fandom reaching a point of stagnation. How many good circles crop up in the pre-SA/UFO era? Now compare that with how much good circles came out post-UFO. Add in the fact that a lot of the artists are unwilling, or unable to change, and that some artists chose to cling to the older games, you get yourself a saturated scene.

That's fine, really. It's not like /jp/ is the sort of place to ask about these sort of things to begin with. But yes, your idea isn't that far away from my own, but in the end it boils down to how easy to use the softwares are, and how much they allow us to alter music. I've messed around some with Audacity and idk if that one's even good to begin with, but I could barely make heads or tails out of things.

Good circles are always popping up, I really think it's hard to say of the new ones now are better or worse compared to a few years back. The main "problem" is that circles, new or old ones alike, rearrange old music as much as they do new. This means newer games are always at a disadvantage. I don't think that means stagnation per-se, and it's something totally understandable, maybe even good because that means that the source material that's old isn't considered better or worse just because it's older.

But at the same time, I feel that it's a lot about trends too. As I see it, some circles /are/ starting to tire of EoSD and PCB, and this last winter/fall I saw an unusually big interests in ZUN's non-game music originals.

They're surprisingly similar in the way that they both turned to their religion of choice out of the fear of dying.

It's hard to all either of them "good", but at least Byakuren believes in and fights for equality among species, which I think shows she is compassionate.

Miko has so far been asleep awaiting resurrection for the wast majority of her life, so it's hard to pass judgement on her. She appears to have been pretty full of herself in life, but being a genius and a prince and all that it's not like she's didn't have a good reason.

On the contrary, most of my favorites can be diametrically opposed both in style and tempo from the originals, and as long as it sounds good I don't care too much if it doesn't resemble the "sentiment" behind the original work.

That Hisoutensoku song is probably just a NND thing. It's just the karaoke song by Tasofro with Yuge singing over it. I don't think it's in any release, but if someone were to prove me wrong I'd be really happy. It's way more epic than the Sound Holic one, I think, simply because of the GOLDION BASHIRAAAAAA.
