> "Lol he made a programmer joke I can realte to this I'm such a nerd".
People always attack it for things like this, but I don't get why. I could apply the same to any sort of humour. He's not just namedropping TBBT-style (most of the time), there's actually some other humour in what's written.
Picture is a classic example. It's not just, "Oh haha I know what sudo is I'm such a UNIX geek!" as anti-xkcd proponents would have you believe. The humour is derived from what the sudo program actually does. It's not outright hilarious but it's not supposed to be. It's something you check once every couple of days or so and maybe get a quick smile out of. Like Dilbert or newspaper comics, or just about any other one-gag-per-strip comic.

Though admittedly I'm not a huge fan, it's just something I read on occasion. I also avoid the forums and know nothing about Randall Munroe except for his appearance at ROFLCon--where he actually seemed like a reasonable and cool guy.

>> No.8228066

>>8228034
Basically this. It's so fucking pretentious it hurts. No wonder reddit likes it, they go so well together. It's obvious that Randall doesn't know shit about programming beyond the first 15 pages of "Learn Python the hard way", but it's ok, because his audience isn't any smarter. All those "nerd" jokes are right up any wannabe-nerd's alley. Ha, I use debian, I'm such a fucking nerd!

It's obviously funny to a lot of people, or he would have stopped a long time ago. This is one of those cases where /jp/ should take its own advice and TAKE IT EASY. A few of the more experimental comics have tried to be deep and a little pretentious, but for the most part it's just a quick gag-per-day. There's not supposed to be anything thought-provoking about it. You're not going to sit there and muse on what it truly means to prefix a request with "sudo".
> it's a "haha I know what sudo is I'm such a UNIX geek!" joke just as you said.
Then why didn't he just put "sudo" on a blank page? Surely if it's as simple as you say and devoid of all other humour, he could have done this and the "xd im such a nerd :D" crowd would have found it funny all the same. You make argue it's _not_ this simple, but The Big Bang Theory does this sort of thing often.
The humour revolves around the semantics and purpose of sudo; not just dropping the word in there.

There's worse stuff.

Like the every-country's specific magazine printed on shit papers that presents horrible, HORRIBLE, FUCKING AWFULLY BAD JOKES. The jokes there are so bad you want to kill yourself from the realization that they are getting the jokes from their readers and all the people who send them are the genuinely unfunny autistic fags who have a monster minddrag about not getting jokes. The generall awfulness comes mainly from
>the same joke in different theme
>the joke not working in the stylistic style it's written, i.e. making short jokes long and vice versa
>the joke not working
>any text, even two sentences, AFTER THE POINT OF THE JOKE WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT FFFFFFFFFFFFFF-
and there are some more clusterfuckish, almost geniusely bad jokes. If you want to get depressed, read those magazines. There's a shitton of them everywhere, read by 13yos and made by 40 years old failed illustrators and manchildern in general.

This is an unfunny comic. I don't like it. Some people might, and I have no problem with that.

However, while unfunny, it doesn't bother with pretentious metaphors, "nerdy" references, doesn't have cringe-worthy "romance" undertones, doesn't strive to be "deep" and "meaningful", an is not aimed at pseudo-intellectuals, unlike this OTHER web comic I know.

That's called "being a teenager." You should probably stick with /b/.

Though I'll admit some tasteless humor can be funny. It's why I used to enjoy C&H (until the gimmick got old) and why I like slightly depressing comics like >>8228075.
